CSULA (Communica Disorders)
My specialty is working with elementary aged children. I am a licensed Speech-Language Pathology Assistant, which means I would provide speech needs only through a licensed or credentialed Speech-Language Pathologist. Speech communications is more towards the media side of communication and a different field compared to communication disorders. I have worked for over 10 years with school aged children in a school setting. However, I can provide tutoring for language, grammar use, and sound production of the American phoneme system.
I am blessed with a wonderful family, happily married for 24 years with two beautiful daughters. My oldest daughter will be a freshman at UC Riverside in the fall and my youngest will be a fourth grader next school year.
One if my qualities is to inspire and persevere through education. I come from a family that places value in knowledge is power. My primary language is Spanish, but I use English at home and work. I use my knowledge of the Spanish language when it us applicable to assist my students. I'm fluent in reading, writing and speaking Spanish. However, my tutoring applies to the grammar rules of English. I obtained a minor in child development during my undergraduate courses and the special emphasis designed program in Education for my master's level work.
I use accents pertaining to the language I speak and understand the unique sound system of certain cultures. I'm aware of the anatomy parts and /or articulators involved in speech for sound production, the blending of sound to form words, rhythmic pattern of phrases and sentences, as well as pragmatic functions.
A quiet setting with no more than two students is preferable to elicit the most productive results. I customize lessons that applies to the processing style of the child, since we learn in various ways. For students having trouble with academics and with the current common core standards, feel free to ask questions in the best way you can communicate and we can begin from there. In the meantime, happy learning. My specialty is working with elementary aged children. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a licensed Speech-Language Pathology Assistant working in school settings. My twelve years of experience has taught me to customize my lessons according to the child's processing and understanding of the American sound system. I am fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English and Spanish. I understand the differences in the phonetic system of other languages when compared to English. My training and experience comes from the education I received at CSULA and ULV. My tutoring involves teaching accommodations through the child's learning style(s).
