I am also a mother of a 20 year old and a wife of a full professor in Mathematics at San Diego State University. I have a lot of experience with one to one private lessons. What I love about turoring is the one to one connection, the fact that it is the best way to know the student's needs and to address them. I always stress that Mathematics is just another language that can be learned by anyone who's willing to do it. I love transmitting the love of studying and learning in general, but especially about Math. I can attest this to the fact that my 20 year old is currently a student at MIT and loves to learn and transmit his knowledge as well.
