I love teaching, and I still do it on a volunteer basis through the Salk Institute's science outreach program. We try to get get underprivileged kids interested in science by going to local high schools and doing simple experiments with them. When I was a grad student I taught Mammalian Physiology multiple times at UCSD. One of the professors I worked with commented that I really went the extra mile, although I didn't really look at it that way - I just enjoyed helping my students succeed, so I made weekly handouts to help them organize the information from lecture.

In college, I tutored dozens of students in 1-on-1 test prep courses (mostly SAT and SATII). If you're applying to grad school, I can make a similar program to help you prepare for the GRE and/or subject test. (The only person I've helped prepare for those specific tests is myself, but I did get perfect scores on both.)

I've written and graded several college level exams. If you're a high school or college student, I can use that experience to help you study more effectively. Well-taught classes usually focus on applying knowledge rather than rote memorization, which is where a research background comes in most helpful - for example, you might be asked to design an experiment or predict what would happen in a hypothetical scenario. On the other hand, there's always a lot of information you have to absorb before you can apply it, and I can help you organize that information (with an outline or diagram for example) like I did for my UCSD students.

Send me a message if you have any questions about what I can teach, or to schedule a session. Online tutoring is usually more convenient for me, but I'm willing to discuss meeting at my office at the Salk Institute or another location if necessary.
