In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I worked as a copy editor for the UCLA newspaper. This experience required me to have a solid foundation of the English language, especially grammar, as I was closely editing newspaper articles. I received a J.D. from UC Davis Law in 2015 where I worked as a legal writing and research tutor. This position required me to meet with students individually, carefully assess the quality of their written work including their grammar and analysis, and provide feedback on how to improve their papers.
I currently practice criminal law and engage in public speaking in courtrooms daily. I myself once struggled with public speaking so I will be able to identify with students' struggles and fears. I am patient and will be able to work closely with students to improve their public speaking skills.
