About Eric

Hi! my name is Eric. I hold a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry/Cell Biology from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). Upon graduation, I received the academic honor of Summa Cum Laude for completing my coursework with a GPA of 3.97, and I was also conferred Distinction by the UCSD department of Biology. Currently, I am in my gap year prior to starting medical school and I wish to spend my time as of now helping high school and college students with science. I have always been fascinated with chemistry and biology, and I wish to instill that same interest in everyone I work with!

In addition to recently being a student myself, I have a wealth of experience teaching. I am currently employed as a high school teacher, and I have also worked as a teaching assistant for various upper division science courses at my university. In addition, I have tutored all levels of chemistry and biology for over three years.

Although I possess the knowledge and expertise to effectively tutor my students, that is not all that I have to offer. We will devise personalized study schedules and problem solving techniques that fit your specific needs. That way, each lesson will be tailored for your own personal progress and current understanding of the course material. If you are ready to see significant results on your next exam, please feel free to contact me at any time!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Biochemistry

I have a broad background in biochemistry. Upon earning my degree in Biochemistry/Cell biology, I have taken and excelled in metabolic biochemistry, structural biochemistry, and biochemical techniques laboratory, earning A+'s in each course. This knowledge was further reinforced for me upon taking the MCAT, and to date, I have been tutoring this subject for over 2 years.

Biology

I had extensive upper division course work in biology during my undergrad at UCSD. I have excelled in courses ranging from molecular biology, biochemistry, physiology, cell biology, biochemical techniques, and more. I have tutored this subject for over three years now, in addition to working as a teaching assistant for an upper division course called Cellular Neurobiology.

I absolutely love the field of biology and hope to make you just as fascinated in it as I am. Through our tutoring session, I hope to steer away from rote memorization (anybody can do that part on their own) - and instead help you build a strong understanding and intuition.

Chemistry

In addition to having completed extensive upper division course work at UCSD, I have been tutoring all levels of chemistry (general/organic/biochem) for over three years. In addition, I have also worked as a teaching assistant for a general chemistry laboratory and lecture course.

The difference between myself and somebody of higher stature (such as one who holds a PhD) is that I was an undergrad student very recently, therefore I can provide you accurate tutoring that tailors to your current needs as a high school or undergraduate student. I truthfully believe that anybody can master chemistry, given the proper guidance. I am confident that if we work hard together, you will get that A.

Organic Chemistry

I have taken 3 organic chemistry courses, with the associated labs in university (and excelling within each class), and I have been tutoring organic chemistry for over a year, to date. I am also currently working as an employed chemistry tutor in addition to the time I spend meeting with students through Wyzant.
I LOVE all types of chemistry, and genuinely feel that my intuitive understanding for this subject will naturally lend itself for effective teaching to all of my students.

Physiology

I have competed many classes in college within this subject, mostly because I find physiology to be a very fascinating science. I have taken physiology l, ll, nutrition, and exercise physiology, along with the associated lab, earning A+'s in every course. I have also taken a course in cellular neurobiology, earning an A+, and subsequently I worked as a teaching assistant for that course the following academic year. I have been tutoring physiology for over two years now, and love seeing how students are able to substantially raise their grades after meeting with me on a regular basis.

Thorough yet easy to understand

Eric was able to take abstract concepts and simplify them in a way that made them significantly easier to understand. He also made sure I could justify my answers and not just get the right answer, improving my overall understanding. I feel more confident going into my upcoming exam.
