My main motivation for pursuing a career as a professor is to combine both teaching and research skills that I accumulated over time (about 15 years) for the benefit of the students. I strongly believe in the importance of education in a society, and teaching has provided me with my most rewarding professional experiences. In my opinion, the knowledge we accumulate as researchers is only valuable if it is fully shared, and I definitely feel complete when I apply my knowledge as a teacher.
At the best public and private universities in Brazil (USP and PUC, respectively), I designed and taught a series of undergraduate disciplines including Human Genetics, Biochemistry, Physiology, Molecular and Cell Biology. I also introduced a Problem-based learning (PBL) discipline at University of Sao Paulo (USP-SP/Brazil) named “Principles of Scientific Thinking” for students to better understand how to devise a research project and to fulfill its requirements. It was delightful to see how the students learned to discuss scientific manners and how they achieved the projects they envisioned.
After accomplishing two postdocs (La Jolla, CA, USA and London, UK), I was able to temporarily return to Brazil to work as Professor at the most recognized Private and Public Universities in South America (Pontifica Universidade Catolica/PUC and Universidade de Sao Paulo/USP, respectively). My duties involved lecturing and teaching Human and Comparative Physiology to medical students (first and second graders from Pontifica Universidade Catolica, PUC) and to introduce scientific skills for a diverse group of other students coming from specialization courses like Gerontology and Earth Sciences at USP.
My passion to teach, to interact and collaborate with other teachers to improve the students’ curriculum, and to create new teaching strategies to improve learning skills are driving forces that complement my dedication to science.

I have been working on the Biology field for over 15 years, more specifically in the areas of Molecular and Cellular Biology. I have over 30 scientific articles published in high impact journals on these topics.
I was Assistant Professor in Genetics at the Universidade Nove de Julho (UNINOVE, 2001) in Brazil, and I also performed a post-doctoral training at the Laboratory of Genetics at Salk Institute (La Jolla, CA, USA) from 2001 to 2005.
I got my bachelor's degree in Pharmacy at University of Sao Paulo (1989-1993) and I have extensive work published in the drug discovery field.
