About Ernesto

Hello, prospective students and involved parents. I have an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Washington. Directly after I started a PhD program in Bioengineering at University of California San Diego. I am currently a PhD candidate at UCSD. I am taking a semester off to write my thesis.

I have participated in various teaching programs on my way towards working on my PhD. I have also worked at Hanford Nuclear Plant, Boeing, and have taught High School students in a program at George Washington University.

My first year of college I was an English major and have also studied in Mexico City. I can help a student in any math course, chemistry, physics....basically anything that is remotely related to engineering. You will see improvements in the student's comprehension in the material right away with my one on one tutoring. My approach is to make sure the students understand the foundation of the material before losing them with the details. This will not only help them in their current courses, but in their future courses as well.

David, I appreciate your feedback, and I understand your response. I asked for feedback in order to understand the rating you assessed. I received your e-mail asking for a lesson that same day in the evening. I replied to your e-mail and was available that evening, but you said it went to your SPAM folder. I was not aware WyzAnt had a SPAM folder.

In either case, we did meet the following day at your apartment, since this worked best for you. We met for two hours. We went over the lecture notes for the class and the homework problems, which you had not read yet. You said you had to leave after two hours and that you would get in contact with me the following week if you needed additional help. At the time I was not aware you were dissatisfied with the lesson. I said I would look through my notes and provide you with any additional material I felt would help you understand the material at no additional cost to you. That evening I received an e-mail from you asking me to provide you with the HW solutions because it was due the following day. I sent you five e-mails that evening and the next day that I felt would help you. These were general approaches that can be used to solve the HW problems. Providing you with the solutions without you understanding the concepts I believe would be doing a disservice to you. The four hours I spent researching this material, I did not charge you for.

I have used the material you are studying in class at Boeing and in my doctoral dissertation. I created a model for the Lymphatic System utilizing this material. I was the first to do so and so I did not have solutions available to me. I asked you if you planned on going into industry or graduate school in order to tailor the lesson to your needs. Learning to apply the material you are studying is the best way to learn it and to score well on midterms and final exams.

I felt I had provided as much help to you as I could under the time constraints you were under.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Mechanical Engineering

I have a bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington

Pharmacology

Pharmacology was a prerequisite that I needed to take in order to fulfill the coursework for the PhD Program in Bioengineering.

Physics

I am able to cover any aspect of Physics that you would like me to focus on.

Physiology

I can cover any part of physiology that you may be focusing on. Whether it be at the cellular level or the muscular or skeletal physiology, I can help you understand how it all comes together.

Poker

I will show you how poker relates to statistics, game theory, and psychology. In general, I will teach you how to be a winning poker player.

I have countless hours of experience playing limit and no-limit poker. I can help to dramatically improve your game no matter at what level you are at.

Spanish

I am a native Spanish speaker. I have a minor in Spanish from the University of Washington. I also studied at UNAM in Mexico City where I also learned the history of Mexico and the grammatical rules to follow when writing in Spanish. I am fluent in reading and writing in Spanish.

Study Skills

I am currently in a Bioengineering PhD program at the University of California San Diego. This includes all skills necessary to succeed in college. I will help you to identify which areas of your study skills you can improve on. This includes time management, note taking, test taking, and reviewing class material. I will help you to be as efficient as possible with your time.

These skills will be able to be utilized for any class that you are currently taking and plan to take in the future.

Maybe an exception but...

Ernesto, you came over and were not prepared to help me with the homework. You admitted you were rusty from learning it a while ago. You were mostly quiet during the lesson or repeated stuff I had said 5 minutes earlier. The help provided for the homework was close to 0 during the lesson. Then you sent me some general physics help with the hw, maybe a fraction of 1 problem. I came up with as much
