About David

I have been tutoring students in History for over 5 years now with great success in teaching a wide range of students from middle school to college-age. I prefer one-on-one lessons and enjoy engaging my students by making the study of History both fun and interesting.

In October of 2016, WyzAnt selected me as 1 of 100 of their top tutors for a select program. Additionally, I was nationally ranked online for multiple History subjects on Wyzant during the week of October 28, 2016, fluctuating between the national rankings.

#2 in American History
#2 in European History
#4 in Geography
#6 in World History
#10 in Government & Politics.

Only the top ten tutors in the country are nationally ranked at any particular time on the first page of the Wyzant online ranking system. In that period, I was also locally ranked #1 within a 40-mile radius of the Orange County area and #4 in the Los Angeles area for History.

My journey to becoming a specialist in History began at California State University San Bernardino (CSUSB). As an undergraduate student and president of Phi Alpha Theta (History Honor Society), I helped classmates improve their understanding of American History, European History, and World History.

At CSUSB I was recognized for my many efforts when I was awarded the "2012 Outstanding Student Leader Award" from the Student Leadership and Development Office-- the highest individual leadership award a student can receive at the 18,000 student campus. Other achievements included earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History with a high degree GPA of 3.88. I've been recognized for academic excellence in History by receiving numerous academic scholarships and awards. These achievements include earning the 4.0 GPA Consecutive Dean's List Award Recipient 2011, History Department Service Scholarship Award and Dean's List Award from 2010-2012. In 2015, I attended the University of Pennsylvania (Penn) an Ivy League school. It was at Penn that I studied economic history culminating in a certification from the Aresty Institute.

I'm qualified to teach California students at the middle school, high school, and college level. My History expertise covers World Civilizations I; World Civilization II; World Civilization III; American Civil; U.S. History to 1877; U.S. History 1877 to Present; Europe, 1815 to Present; History of Rome; African American 1620-1865; African-American History 1865-Present; Women U.S. History 1865-Present; Women in Black Freedom Movement; Civil War & Reconstruction; American History Through Film; California Indian History; Modern Middle East; Africa 1870 to Present; 20th Century Europe; Health and Medicine in Africa; Latin American History Through Film; Arab-Israeli Conflict; Modern Iran; Europe Since 1945; Research Seminars in History ; Proseminars in History.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

At the undergraduate level I took highly advanced studies of the History of the United States. I earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and wrote my thesis covering American History.

College Counseling

I previously served in a Counseling and Guidance program that helped undergraduate students navigate the college environment at Cal State University San Bernardino. In 2012, I was given the "Outstanding Student Leader" award which is considered the highest leadership distinction a single student can receive at the 18,000 student campus. Over my college career I was President of five student organizations where a large part of those roles directly involved counseling students.
Additionally, I was a volunteer at the local Congressional Office and made numerous visits to local High School classrooms advising them on the many opportunities that exist at the university level.

European History

I completed advanced academic studies covering the History of Europe from ancient times to the modern era. I've also made academic visits to a leading European university, the London School of Economics, to expand my historical knowledge. I'm therefore qualified to convey European Historical knowledge at a high proficiency based on my formal History degree and actual engagement with European society.
