I specialize in helping students (and their parents) who struggle with math. With 25 years of teaching experience, I have developed a way of working with students that is both fun and effective. I am a credentialed teacher in the State of California and a former home school mom as well. So, I bring both a professional and a personal approach to my teaching.
I will work with students in the elementary grades, middle school, high school, or junior college.
-Does your younger student need to develop a strong math foundation which will help them to succeed later in school? We can cover difficult topics like word problems and Pre-Algebra.
-Does your teenager need to pass Algebra 1 or Geometry (or Integrated Math 1 and 2) to graduate from High School? I have many years of experience helping high school students "get" the concepts in Algebra 1 and Geometry.
-Do you need to prepare for the SAT tests, or to pass the CAHSEE math test? I have taught students how to improve their scores on standardized tests through the use of proven test-taking strategies.
-If you need help with basic math or Algebra at the Community College level, I can help you too.
I am also able to tutor in many of the other subjects for elementary through high school age students (see the list below of my approved subject areas). We can discuss your individual needs and how I might help.

My son really enjoyed working with Margaret. So glad we were able to connect with such a great tutor. We look forward to finishing the school year strong with Margaret's help.
Margaret worked with math. I never felt like I could do math but she really helped me how to under stand and how to figure it out . She is really patient
Margaret did a great job connecting with my son, assessing where he is at in math, giving him helpful instruction, and researching a book that will be beneficial to him.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I hold a valid K-12 multi-subject teaching credential from the State of California. I taught at a K-8 independent study school for five years, where I assisted parents in composing lesson plans and creating interventions for their children. For the past 25 years, I have taught phonics, spelling and reading to many children ages 5 to 15 and trained teachers in the use of phonics in reading instruction.
For the past 25 years, I have taught phonics, spelling and reading to many children ages 5 to 15. Specifically, I have used "The Writing Road to Reading" curriculum to teach young children to read, and to correct difficulties in spelling and reading with older children and teens. I have also trained teachers in the use of intensive phonics in reading instruction.
