Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ASP.NET

I have taught and developed websites using ASP.Net through Microsoft Visual Studio for web forms. ASP.Net is saved as .aspx pages within a project and work with .cs (C# pages) and the designer. One of the things I love about ASP.Net is you can modify the code, save and refresh the web page without having to stop the project first.

C#

I do much of my development in C#. I have created web and client/server applications using Visual Studio with SQL databases. Some applications include ERP systems, accounting & finance and websites. I use C# for both web forms and MVC applications and complement the views with Razor.

Computer Programming

I have programmed mainframe, mini, desktop computers and mobile devices for 33 years. I started with DOS 1.0, Cobol and Basic on an IBM in the 80s. In the 90s, I moved to the Windows platform using Visual Basic. In the 2000's I converted to Visual Studio while maintaining my Visual Basic applications. I have programmed from inception Contact Management, Accounting & Finance, Health Care and Manufacturing systems to name a few.

Computer Science

I have been using and teaching all aspects of computing for 33 years. I have taught classes in everything from setting up computers, printers & networks, how computers work on the inside and outside, internet use and protecting data and pictures. My students have ranged from children to the elderly and from one student to hundreds at a time. I also have done many presentations about the technology industry tools. I have taught students obtaining their bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of Redlands.

Cooking

I have cooked for one to hundreds of people for 40 years. I specialize in Italian, Mexican, Chinese and American dishes. I cook every meal at home: breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. Most of my spices I grow in my garden. I love to cook!

Microsoft Access

I am mostly a SQL/.Net developer, but Access is a great tool for a client application for users that need to support what is developed in Access without having to know high end development such as SQL, etc. I have used Access to download data, manipulate through queries and produce results on the screen and for export. I have used Access for conversions from legacy systems to SQL databases.

Microsoft Outlook

I have taught and supported Outlook for single users as well as many hundreds of users with large organizations (and I use it myself). I teach all aspects of Outlook: how to use the calendar and invite attendees, maintain emails, contacts, tasks and notes. I also have supported Outlook with Exchange.

Microsoft Project

I have been using Project for many years to document, track and present the status of my development projects from inception to completion. I assign project tasks to team members and track them continuously. I have embedded Project into websites for management review.

Microsoft Windows

Thank god for Windows. I started with DOS 1.0 and moved to Windows 2.11 in 1993. Every new version that deploys I install and become proficient. I am curently on Windows 7 and moving to Windows 8. I love teaching Windows to users. There is so much to it that many users do not know about to even enjoy.

QuickBooks

In my business I have installed, taught and supported QuickBooks for many small businesses in the Inland Empire. All my QuickBooks requests came from referrals. I assist clients to setup their Chart Of Accounts and train them how to create invoices and reports as well as complete payable and receivable transactions. I also teach them how to export their tax data to their accountants in formats including Turbo Tax.

Sewing

I have been sewing since I was 10 years old. I sew clothes, curtains, make quilts, etc. I have a certificate in Fashion Merchandising where I graduated with a 4.0 and high honors. I was a member of the Redlands Quilt club until I moved to Joshua Tree last year. Now I teach people in the desert how to quilt.

Tax Preparation

I am currently preparing taxes at H&R Block. I started and successfully completed the tax course in 08-2014, am bonded, received my CTEC and PIN for the 2015 year. I have been heavily involved with my taxes for 35 years which have always included the Forms 1040, 540, Schedules A B C D SE and Forms 8829 and depreciation.

Visual Basic

I started using BasicA in the early 80s. Since I expanded to Visual Basic 4,5 & 6 and Visual Studio VB. I have developed websites, client/server applications and mobile devices using Visual Basic. Some include inventory, contact management systems, accounting & finance and ERP systems.

Web Design

I taught web design classes at the University of Redlands. For approximately 13 years, I also have designed many types of web applications including informational, ecommerce, and company database driven. The tools I currently use are Visual Studio .Net ASP.Net, HTML5, C#, VB and MVC. For databases I use SQL, SSIS and SSRS.
