About Christian

I'm a fourth year Physics student currently studying at UCI, and am also working towards concentrations in Aerospace Engineering and Astrophysics. I have experience tutoring math, physics, and chemistry since high school, and ran the chemistry and physics labs at my high school as a senior.

During my first year of college I tutored Calculus and Physics at a nearby high school and thoroughly enjoyed watching the light bulb moment when a concept clicks with a student.

Since leaving that tutoring job, I've tutored many family and friends through high school and college level classes privately, both over skype and in person.

In high school I took Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, and AP Calculus AB.
In college I've taken the full calculus series, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, and rounded it all off with a Mathematical Methods for Physicists where we applied concepts from previous classes and worked computational problems using Mathematica.

As a Physics major I've taken the introductory calculus based physics (kinematics, dynamics, electromagnetism, waves, optics) and several higher level classes such as Classical Mechanics and General Relativity.

I am studying in Irvine year round, and am willing to travel to a student's home, or another location (e.g. libraries, coffee shops, etc...). Years of tutoring have familiarized me with common issues students have while learning these subjects and taught me to explain them effectively and intuitively.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 are my most frequent requests from high school students. Algebra can be tedious and frustrating at times but I have been tutoring it for four years now and using the concepts for six and thus have the experience and intuition needed to help students grasp confusing concepts. I will usually start with a problem that I solve, emphasizing how and when a certain technique can be applied, then go onto a simple problem that the student solves with my oversight, and then move onto more complicated problems to reinforce the concept. I find that confidence is key when solving math problems and thus tailor the above guideline to the student adding more simple examples and instruction if needed.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 is one of my most frequent requests from high school students. Algebra 2 can be tedious and frustrating at times but I have been tutoring it for four years now and using the concepts for six and thus have the experience and intuition needed to help students grasp confusing concepts.

Physics

By the time I graduated high school, I had decided that I wanted to pursue physics. I loved the problem solving and intuition that I began to develop. I took the Calculus based series early on and have since taken more advanced courses.

I've been applying these concepts for 5 years now and have the experience to nudge students in the correct direction and avoid common pitfalls.

Terrific!

Christian knows Physics! He was a great help to our son with both homework and test prep. He was patient and was able to exchange ideas with my son that he could easily understand and learn from. We will use him again!
