I am and have been for 30 years, an elementary school teacher for an award-winning Title 1 public school in California, teaching grades K through 6. I take pride in helping low achieving students succeed and high achieving students excel. I have been instrumental in creating curriculum to meet the needs of these students. I graduated with a B.A. degree in social work and earned a multi- subject teaching credential. I acquired both a M.A. and a doctorate degree in education. In addition to a teaching credential, I also have a school psychologist credential and understand that students have more than just academic needs that need to be met before they can succeed in school. For the past 16 years, I have been sharing all of my knowledge and experience as a professor at several major universities in their master, doctor, and teacher education programs helping teachers learn the best practices to help the 21st century student become all that they can be.
I have taught 5th grade for many years and now understand the question "Are you as smart as a 5th grader?" Fifth grade math contains many of the hardest concepts for children to learn. I take pride in consistently raising my students' scores through step by step learning, interactive math note taking, and through practice, practice, practice.
During 5th grade, students are required to take a standardized science test based on what they have learned in science from grade K through 5. I have become not only a master at reviewing science from beginning to end, but have become an avid lover of science itself and share this zest with my students.
For 20 of my 30 years teaching, I was designated the ESL teacher at whatever grade level I was teaching at, which meant that the majority of my students were struggling second language learners. I learned special techniques to work with this population through state training as well as experience. I also taught ESL to parents after school for many years. In addition, I created a proof - of - success writing program sold on the Teachers pay Teachers website that focuses on the state SBAC ELA Performance Task, grades 4 through 6. In addition, I have written my own 365 page children's novel, so I am developing a trained eye for proper grammar and editing which I am passing on to my students.
I available to help those in need on an hourly basis during the summer break. Please let me know how I can help your child succeed.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
When our school adopted the common core standards, many of us were trained at UCLA how to understand and teach the standards. We learned what is different about the new standards, and how our teaching needed to be different. I have learned to increase productivity, discussion, engagement, and attention when exposing students to the common core standards.
