Greetings! I am just the hybrid tutor that you are looking for as a web developer with a passion in teaching!

My major in college years allowed me to utilize a variety of computer software as a means to create art. I have experience with graphics, web design, animation and even video and audio editing, but my favorite area of specialty is what I do now as a career, web development.

In addition, I also love love love to teach! I get excited learning new things, but I get even more excited when I get to share that with others so that they too can experience that same feeling when everything makes sense. I minored in teaching when I was in college and I've been able to apply those concepts to all kinds of positions ranging from one-on-one tutoring to summer technology camp for kids as well as positions in an after-school tutoring institute as well as teaching coworkers in the corporate environment.

Being a web developer, I have been working with HTML and CSS for about a decade now and I also have a few years of experience with JavaScript and JQuery as well. I know my way around a variety of content management systems and have specifically work heavily with WordPress.

I'm also very well acquainted with the Adobe Suite. Photoshop and Dreamweaver have been my close buddies for almost 15 years and I also have experience working with vector graphics in Illustrator and InDesign. I also have experience with Flash as well as video editing in Premier and Final Cut Pro.

Not only do I use Photoshop on a regular basis for all my web work, but I am also a hobby photographer so I get to use Photoshop for the photo editing aspect as well. I even taught Photoshop to students at a summer technology camp in the context of photo manipulation as well as for website graphics. I don't know how I can live without Photoshop in my life and I'd love to be able to help add this handy tool to your toolkit!

Give me my two passions of tech and teaching and that's when the magic happens! :)

Art

Adobe Photoshop,

Adobe Photoshop

I have been using Adobe Photoshop for 15 years. I work as a Web Designer so Photoshop is a big part of my toolkit I use regularly. I have also been teaching Photoshop to students of all ages ranging from 7 year old kids to retired folks and everything in between.
Graphic Design,

Graphic Design

Photoshop is my all-time favorite program that I've been using for over 15 years now, but I've enjoyed all kinds of other fun programs such as Illustrator for vector graphics, InDesign for print layout and many other techie programs. While my main job title is "web designer," I also worked on the layout design of the websites I created as well as manipulate graphics and logos for the websites. Once I started my own business, I expanded expanded from merely creating websites to other graphics projects such as logos, business cards, brochures, tshirt designs and more. I not only love learning and using these programs, but I also greatly enjoy teaching and have taught students ranging from elementary school age to retired folks so I'd love to show you how amazing these programs are as well!
Photography,

I've been shooting in manual on a Canon DSLR for over seven years now. I'm a web and graphic designer by trade so photography is not only a fun hobby, but also a very useful addition to my profession. I'm able to provide my clients with the option of high quality professional photographs to brighten up their websites or their printed marketing materials. I have also taught photography and photo editing to students of all ages and would love to share this fun and useful skill with you!

CSS,

CSS

I am self-taught in CSS after learning HTML. I started designing and coding from scratch, one simple website each week for a couple years for a job and that boosted my design, HTML and CSS skills. I eventually took a web design course that covered the foundations of HTML and CSS, which solidified my experience with CSS.
Dreamweaver,

Dreamweaver

Dreamweaver was the first program I learned to use for writing HTML when I first took web design courses in college 13 years ago and is my go-to program even today. I started out using the design view in conjunction with the code view, but eventually leaned mainly on the code view. However, the design view has many great features that help a user do the same HTML functions, but quicker and is easier visually. I've taken official Dreamweaver courses and also taught Dreamweaver to students at a technology summer camp so I know my way around very well in this program.

Macintosh,

Macintosh

I have been using computers since childhood and have always been fascinated with them. I took every opportunity to explore not just the necessary functions to get to the programs I needed, but I enjoyed learning how to change settings and tweak things. I grew up on a PC, but started on a Mac for work in 2009 and never looked back. I picked up the differences really quickly and now prefer to use Macs for work and personal use. I am well versed with the shortcut keys, settings and functionality and am able to figure out what I don't know.
Microsoft Outlook,

Microsoft Outlook

I've used Microsoft Outlook since seven years ago and have used regular MS Outlook as well as MS Outlook Express and have working experience helping clients troubleshoot their Outlook issues. I've had to set up Outlook as well as configure settings time and time again in various computer setups from Mac to PC and various versions of Outlook as well. I have also used the integrated calendar associated with Outlook and have set options for out of office replies, personal signatures and more.
Microsoft Windows,

Microsoft Windows

I grew up since childhood using PC's. I loved everything about computers and was always fascinated with learning more and tweaking things. Once Microsoft Windows came about, I was excited to play with settings and learn how to navigate around. I quickly picked up Microsoft Windows and all the intricacies of settings and where to find things. When I needed to troubleshoot or upgrade my computer, I learned where I needed to go to make those updates and changes and even helped friends when they have computer issues.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Shellyn helped me correct many issues with my website. She patiently explained how to do it so that I would learn how to do it in the future. She showed me how to make a new header and connect it to a new page and add new information on that page, She was very knowledgeable. I recommend her highly.

Knowledgeable, patient, sweet!

Shellyn helped me with my Wordpress site and gave me so much information! I learned more in 2 hours with her than I could have in 10 hours on my own. She gave me the confidence to implement changes to the website and now I feel like I am self sufficient! 100% recommend Shellyn!

Excellent tutoring session

Shellyn was prepared and very knowledgable. I'm transitioning to MAC after 20 years on a PC, and needed help with all the shortcuts. She quickly assessed my learning style and keyboard vs. mouse preferences, and answered more questions that I even knew I had. I learned so much. Will hire her again, and recommend her to others.
