I am a practicing lawyer, where I draft legal contracts, and a published writer. I was also a corporate speechwriter in New York City for many years. Some years back, I was an adjunct professor teaching writing and American business law at a major university in China (Shanghai Jiao Tong University). I had tremendous satisfaction and success helping my Chinese-speaking student develop their English-writing skills and improve their knowledge about new subjects. I had this same experience earlier in my career teaching business writing to non-native English speakers at the City University of New York. I have also traveled all over the world, through China, Japan, Southeast and Central Asia, Europe and Central and South America, and can speak some Spanish and Chinese. I have a great interest in helping students who are immigrants or come from different cultural backgrounds.
SPEECHWRITER AND BUSINESS WRITER: I was a corporate speechwriter and wrote articles to be published under the names of corporate clients for four years in New York City. An article I prepared for one client was published in The New York Times.
WRITING INSTRUCTOR: Writing Instructor for non-native English teachers at City University of New York and at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China.
PUBLISHED WRITER: My master's thesis at Columbia University was published abroad at an international university. I have also published various articles on travel, ethnic food, and law in regional and national publications in the United States.
ATTORNEY: I am admitted to the California Bar, and am currently practicing law in Newport Beach. Most of my work as an attorney involves drafting complicated legal documents.
As my legal practice winds down, I have extra time to devote to things I care deeply about. I am a very patient and sensitive person, who has been able to advise and counsel people effectively, both as a lawyer and in everyday life. I am an excellent writer. Writing is basically a technical skill, and I have found that I can help others significantly improve their writing by learning certain basic skills. There is no magic to becoming a very good writer. If you follow my techniques, and work hard, I assure you that I can help you improve your writing skills. I am a practicing lawyer, where I draft legal contracts, and a published writer. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
For four years I was a speechwriter at several prominent public relations and corporate communications companies in New York, including the international advertising firm, J. Walter Thompson (now JWT Worldwide). My work involved coaching these clients on the most effective way to give the speech. I also coached clients on giving media interviews.
