Hello! My name is Caroline and I really like helping people learn and understand new concepts. Whether you need help with Chinese Mandarin reading, listening, conversation, or translation or help with English or history, I am happy to help! I take pride in being prepared, punctual, and experienced in a variety of subjects. I am patient and kind and always willing to help review material, and change the way I explain things until you feel confident. As a native speaker of English who started learning Chinese more than 15 years ago, I have a unique perspective on learning and teaching. In every lesson, we will go at your pace and use the teaching methods and explanations that help you best.
I have a lot of experience with Chinese, English, and history. I am currently taking an upper-division course in literary Chinese at UCI. I have also worked in Chinese translation for several years, with many different clients. I have had the pleasure of living and traveling in China, and I have completed graduate courses related to translation and advanced Chinese college courses in China and in the United States.
English is another language I love and am very experienced in. I am a native speaker of English and I have done a lot of academic writing and original research for my bachelor's degree in history. I have also taken several graduate courses in writing and the liberal arts. Literature, creative writing, and business writing are also subjects in which I excel. To be a good writer, you must be a good reader, and I love helping people improve their reading skills to better understand various subjects and improve their skills.
One of my favorite subjects is history. Learning about the past helps us better understand and live out the present and prepare for the future. History is made up of so many different individuals and people groups and stories, and it would be a pleasure to help you understand the historical field further.
Whatever your academic and/or personal goals are, I would love to have the chance to help you achieve them. My rates are flexible depending on your individual situation.
Thank you for your consideration and I hope to hear from you soon. I wish you the best in all of your endeavors! Hello! My name is Caroline and I really like helping people learn and understand new concepts. Whether you need help with Chinese Mandarin reading, listening, conversation,
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a bachelor's degree in history from the University of Maryland and I have loved history since I was a child. History is not just about dates and figures. History is full of stories. Let's go over them together!
I have been studying the Bible independently for many years. I have participated in several Bible study groups and have been attending Christian church services weekly for most of my life. I have also helped other people understand theological and philosophical sections of the Bible and I teach children Bible verses and Bible stories as well.
I have been a professional Chinese mandarin translator for 14 years. I have completed several academic Chinese courses (in simplified and traditional characters), including a summer of Chinese immersion training at Middlebury College in Vermont. Additionally, I have also passed the Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) test as well as the Business Chinese Test (BCT). I studied in Dalian, China (in NE China) for one semester and lived and traveled in China for a total of 7 months- once in 2006 and once again in 2008. I continue to study Chinese independently and enjoy speaking with Chinese friends as well.
I have experience teaching English to both children and adults. Most of my experience is in teaching ESL college students but I have also tutored elementary and high-school students in language arts, including grammar, vocabulary, and composition. I especially love helping people communicate better. You will find that I am a very patient and thorough teacher!
I really enjoy fixing mistakes, and taking documents that have some errors and helping the writer understand why things are incorrect. I have impeccable spelling and excellent use of punctuation, among other essential proofreading skills.
Being limited in reading because of lack of vocabulary or lack of ability to analyze what you read, or any other reason can be very frustrating. I have experience in teaching both children and adults how to understand what they are reading, how to summarize the texts they read, and how to think about how the content affects them. Reading can be more fun and more useful with me as your tutor!
It is important to learn to be a good writer. Having studied as a graduate student and having worked as a translator for several years has given me the skills to convey in writing both specific and broad ideas and concepts to my audiences and clients. Let me share what I know with you!
