Hi students and parents of students,

My services combine my master's degree in curriculum, eleven years in public education, and 2 years experience teaching in a private school. I help K-6 students take apart math word problems to "see" what is the real question. I read and write with all ages, helping with fluency and being on hand to help each student understand what they're reading and how to read for information.

The Common Core requires attention to detail and the ability to convert knowledge to communication via technology. I address parent and teacher concerns and design a curriculum to meet student needs. I then adjust the strategies to meet the student's personality (strengths and weaknesses). I help students explain their thinking, how they arrived at a correct answer, and what steps were taken. Learning to support one's thinking and arguments will prepare students for university life and the workplace.

I enjoy helping with homework and projects, then expanding and anticipating next steps in class for success and the competitive edge at school or work.

ESL/ESOL,

ESL/ESOL

I've tutored business English and English grammar and conversation for two years. I taught ESL class in a public education setting for 7 years. I find that English learners wish to have an intelligent, respectful teacher as they seek to improve their English to better their life choices and meet their language goals.
Grammar,

Grammar

Grammar supports all areas of writing. Helping a student find the right reading material gives them the grammar background from which to draw. Drawing attention to great word use in a passage the student is already enjoying allows grammar to come alive and find it's way into the student's writing.
Proofreading

Proofreading

I proofread for the Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL) and other space tech companies in the eighties, more recently completed my thesis for a masters degree in curriculum planning and helped my classmates edit their theses.

Elementary Education

Common Core,

Common Core

Common core subject matter has changed standard subjects in a way that may seem foreign to parents and teachers. However, the subjects just go deeper, present more learning opportunities, and incorporate the best of technology (as available). I taught common core curriculum as an elementary teacher and my master's degree was completed recently, just as common core was getting started in California schools. Last year I tutored exclusively and found much of the math that challenged my students required a common core approach and new skills. I'm here to help your child dig in and become a Common Core Kid. Soon (s)he won't know any other method. It will be second nature.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been a teacher and master teacher (mentoring new or prospective teachers) helping kindergarten through sixth grade students. Different ages have brought different academic challenges for me to provide lessons and strategies for students to meet the standards for their grade level. Tutoring allows us to take them beyond the requirements when they're ready.
Elementary Math,

Elementary Math

I've tutored third, fourth and fifth graders in common core math for the past two years. I taught elementary school for eleven years before tutoring, and have a master's degree in curriculum. Word problems and explaining in words and on computer how to solve problems is important in today's math expectations. I am looking to help students love this challenging subject.

My teaching experience includes third grade classes for three years. In addition to keyboarding for technology, I've always started a systematic cursive daily practice. I've had several students say their favorite subject was handwriting. It can be academic and "arty" and fun.
Homeschool,

Homeschool

My Master's degree is in Education Curriculum. I'm very comfortable individually creating a curriculum plan or making provided materials fit the student's preferred learning style. My experience in the elementary public schools was for eleven years until three years ago. Since then I have over 700 hours of successful individual in-home tutoring. Two families entrusted their home schooled children to my care and instruction.

Reading

I have a Master's Degree in curriculum, and have taught elementary school for eleven years. I specialize in helping students read more fluently (smoothly), and how to successfully read for information. I want to teach individual learners using my experience and appreciation for each child's individual learning styles, without distractions of the classroom setting.

I've exceeded the WyzAnt qualifications and testing in the areas of English and Language Arts instruction. I've tutored adults and children in English, and taught ELD in the public school system for 11 years. Language Arts is my favorite subject personally and my master's thesis involved increasing elementary students' reading fluency.

Great motivator

My son has shown tremendous progress with his reading which have build up his confidence as well. He went from completely avoiding reading to independently reading on his own for fun. He looks forward to his lessons with Lindee.

Best reading tutor you could hope for!

I cannot recommend Miss Lindee highly enough. Last year my son, who was in second grade, was struggling with reading fluency. I searched Wyzant's profiles and found Lindee, who did her Master's thesis on reading fluency. What serendipity! Lindee worked with Mark once a week during second grade and got him up to proficiency by the end of the year. We took the summer off and then resumed tutoring when third grade started. Each week Lindee times my sons reading using official grade level passages, and he is now reading above grade level! We are so thankful to Lindee for all of her help and kind encouragement. Having Lindee around for tutoring is truly lovely - her personality is positive and friendly, and her genuine care for my son was obvious. My younger 4 year old son also adores her, and both boys look forward to seeing her each week. Scheduling time with Lindee is easy - she is always on time, and lets me know weeks in advance if she was going to be away (e.g. holidays). As a busy single mom with a demanding career, I really appreciated that I could count on her professionalism and timeliness. Lindee's tutoring style takes into account each child's unique strengths and needs. I could tell that she tailored each lesson distinctly for my son by including activities that would keep him engaged and motivated. From selecting reading passages with topics of interest, to incorporating artistic activities and even some computer games, the lessons always flew by and my son was never bored. We love Miss Lindee!
