About Fred

I am a part time college teacher, CPA, and attorney. I love teaching, and thought I'd tutor a little. I know business, accounting, and business law and taxation very well, and have taught college classes in those subjects. I am able to keep people laughing while they are learning!

I have taught ESL classes to immigrants and others in the past, and have had a great and fun time doing that. I am certified in TESOL and understand how to help acquire language skills. I've become fluent in Spanish, and have taught ESL classes before.

Finally, I've engaged in ABA, PRT, floortime and much more with a relative on the spectrum, and know how to use peer mediated solutions to help advance skills of children on the spectrum.

So, I can help on accounting, business, law and ESL. The most important thing is that you enjoy the learning process, and I guarantee you will!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Accounting

I am a CPA, and have a lot of experience preparing financial statements for businesses, both big and small. I have completed SEC filings for public companies that required GAAP compliant financial statements, and have overseen the audit process where those statements are completed, and audited.

Aspergers

I have engaged in many of the techniques used by published experts and caregivers on those on the Autism spectrum, such as ABA, PECS and PRT. I have studied those techniques carefully, and know how to apply them. I have seen results from those techniques.

I have a Substitute Teaching Credential in California, and significant classroom experience working with children on the spectrum.

I fully understand the importance of early intervention, and more importantly, the intense importance of having peers engage a child on the spectrum. I have studied the science behind them, and have used ABA, PRT and PMT and understand RDI concepts.

I have worked with ICEC, an early intervention non-profit, and even today, I am on their Board.

I understand techniques such as ABA, PECS, PRT and more, but if given the opportunity to tutor, I will engage the subject in an interesting way, and then find a way to have peers do the same in a fun way. The ICEC method draws parents into this, giving parent instruction on how to develop socialization techniques on a naturally occurring basis. I believe that any professional will understand the unique and special benefits of this instruction.

Business

I am an attorney and CPA and can practice in California and Arizona. I have taught Business Law and Entrepeneurship at a community college for more than 2 years. I know how to finance business startups and can teach basic and more complicated business concepts. I know tax preparation well. I teach at a community college (IVC) and know how to engage students and keep them focused. I love watching the learning process occur.

ESL/ESOL

I have a TESOL certification, and have taught ESL classes locally off and on. Most recently, I was a volunteer for an ESL class at my church, and received good reviews for keeping the learning process stimulating and effective. My TESOL certification was earned within the last two years.

Law

I am an attorney with 25 years experience in business and finance, but with a good handle on operations, taxes, risk management and government. I teach Business Law in college and have been able to help others learn the importance of law in our society.

Microsoft Excel

I've used Excel programs for many years and am at least an Intermediate to Advanced level. Not good at macros, but just about everything else.

Proofreading

I've proofread 100 page agreements, complex financial statements with boring notes attached, and essays written for college, law and medical school.

Spanish

Hola! Como estas?

I am fluent in Spanish, having lived for two years in Latin America, and having minored in Spanish at ASU. I have written a Spanish short story that won a university award, and feel comfortable with the Spanish language.

I am certified with TESOL, and feel comfortable with teaching Spanish to others using some of those same techniques.

Te veremos! Hasta luego.
