I am an experienced tutor with over 15 years of working with children of all ages in both the classroom setting and one-to-one. I have taught English as a Second Language outside of the USA. Other experience includes a working wide variety of environments, from the traditional classroom to day camp to personalized private lessons in the student's home. My specialties are language arts, reading, writing, spelling, phonics, etc. in elementary and junior high grades, as well as ESL for both adults and children. At this time, I am working with children from at least seven different countries. For me, getting to share the love of our cultures is an unbeatable opportunity.
I believe in making lesson time fun and interesting. It's important to me to keep the students' attention, and I do this is by being creative and by maintaining a positive atmosphere. I try to look for the strong points in all students. I look forward to the privilege of working with you or your child soon.
Currently, I also work in an academy for assisting students of all ages with reading, writing, grammar, and preparation for examinations such as the SSAT and SAT. I frequently assist persons wishing to take the TOEFL or TOEIC. I would love to share my experience with you or your child.
Thank you for your interest! Hello,

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have over fifteen years experience working with elementary students in a variety of settings, such as the traditional classroom and in afterschool, weekend, or summer programs. This includes all ages of elementary school from K to 6th grade. I am able to organize lessons and activities for individuals, small groups, or large groups.
I lived and worked in Greece for 15 years and learned the language. I also studied at a college there and earned a certificate (in a non-related field) and ran my own business, all in the Greek language.
Here in the United States, I am on staff at a language academy for teaching modern Greek, in Irvine, CA. I maintain friendships with persons on Greek and speak to them frequently online, and I coach one Chinese girl who is learning Greek online. I am confident in my fluency.
I have been working with elementary-level students for several years, and many times, their parents ask me to assist with cursive writing. Indeed, I am helping three students right now with cursive exercises because the subject is not emphasized in their schools. As a way to incorporate this into their lessons, I often require the students to submit their homework written in their best cursive. We use books specifically for this purpose that show the formation of the letters and which have practice exercises following.
I taught English as a foreign language in Greece for fifteen years. One of the exams that was typically offered to students was the IELTS. Because I am a native speaker of English, I was generally responsible for exam preparation with the students taking IELTS, especially with the speaking section.
I tutor elementary children in phonics. We usually use workbooks such as Spectrum or Brain Quest. I like for the student to write the words, then say them aloud. If the child is old enough to understand, I might explain why the word is written the way it is, although sometimes I have to tell him that in English, there are many exceptions to the spelling rules which simply must be learned. Repetition is the key in such situations.
