Hello, my name is Charles and I am an aspiring actuary (accredited with perfect scores on actuarial exams P/1 and FM/2). I have recently attained a B.S. and B.A. from University of California Irvine in the studies of Mathematics and Quantitative Economics.
I am a highly experienced private tutor with specializations in quantitative sciences. Throughout my years of tutoring, I have realized that students struggle to succeed in physical sciences due to either a poor mastery of reoccurring topics or difficulty visualizing abstract concepts. My competence as a tutor relies on the skill of explaining difficult mathematical concepts to students in a manner that is practical and easily digestible to developing mathematical minds.
I have extensive knowledge of the curriculum for the math related AP and SAT exams, having taught calculus for 6 years. I was also a successful AP student in high school, completing Calculus AB, Calculus BC, and Statistics with a score of 5. As a former student of the AP courses, I am well aware of the difficulties students face pursuing a passing score.
Tutoring sessions will always include diligently prepared preview questions, which will challenge the student's understanding of requested concepts and also provide an assessment of the students relevant proficiency. Also, homework questions will be provided upon request/continuation of lessons.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Throughout my undergraduate mathematics career at UCI, I have tutored several high school students in Algebra 2. My main objective is to instill effective arithmetic techniques, which will provide significant advantages towards excelling in physical sciences in college.
Calculus is the subject I am most proficient in tutoring, due to the substantial amount of exposure to peers and students that struggled with the subject.
I am confident I will be of great assistance in mastering Calculus, whether it be preparing for an upcoming midterm or the AP Calculus exam.
Geometry is a crucial subject in high school mathematical progression which is often overlooked. Most students will do surprisingly well in the course by simply memorizing the formulas assigned to evaluate various geometrical shapes. However, to excel in calculus it is important that students are capable of creatively visualizing and understanding how each formula is derived.
