Hello and welcome to my page, my name is Brooke!

I'm a Princeton PhD student studying Computational Psychology and Artificial Intelligence. I recently graduated with my M.S. in Computer Science from UC Irvine. I received my undergraduate degree in Math-Computer Science from UC San Diego in 2017. I worked for 3 years as a software engineer at Intuit and Blizzard Entertainment. I’ve also taught for the Girls Who Code Summer Immersion Program.

I viscerally remember how intimidated I was in my first programming class. There's so many new concepts, tools, and technologies to learn; I felt overwhelmed and I wondered if I would even be able get through. To make matters more challenging, Computer Science is often taught with large, impersonal lectures and rote memorization which makes these subjects even harder to grasp. I remember being frustrated with the disconnect between theoretical concepts presented in class and the vastly different untaught skills required for the programming assignments.

Fast forward 10 years from that first CS class—I’m now a PhD student in Computational Psychology and a professional Software Engineer—I haven’t forgotten how challenging those first few learning experiences in this field were. I'm passionate about making challenging topics in CS accessible to all learners, and I don't believe that you have to be innately gifted or have been programming since you were a toddler to become proficient in Computer Science. I think often what new learners need is someone there to patiently guide them through those first few steps as they build the confidence to solve challenging problems.

I have taught a variety of subjects in Computer Science, and I have taught levels elementary through graduate. My favorite subject to tutor is introductory programming. I also am available to give advice on breaking into the tech industry and how to secure summer internships.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions, I look forward to working with you!

I received my M.S. in Computer Science from UC Irvine in 2022, where I specialized in Artificial Intelligence. Additionally, I worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for several graduate-level Computer Science and Software Engineering courses. Prior to my graduate studies, I worked as a Software Engineer at top tech companies for several years including Intuit, Blizzard Entertainment, and CBS Interactive. I obtained my undergraduate degree in Mathematics-Computer Science at UC San Diego in 2017.

I'm a Princeton PhD student studying Computational Psychology and Artificial Intelligence. I recently obtained my M.S. in Computer Science from UC Irvine. I worked for 3 years as a software engineer at Intuit and Blizzard Entertainment. I’ve also worked as the lead instructor for the Girls Who Code Summer Immersion Program. While I was at UCI, I worked as a teaching assistant and co-lecturer for our introductory Python course sequence, as well as an upper-division Java course and graduate/professional Java course. I was consistently provided with top ratings from my students, both at the undergraduate level and at the graduate/professional level. My favorite students to teach are beginners and those who are really struggling with their Computer Science coursework—I myself struggled with understanding introductory coursework and considered changing majors several times. Despite those initial struggles, after I graduated from UCSD with my undergrad in Math-CS, I went on to work in industry for 3 years as a professional software engineer at Intuit Inc. and Blizzard Entertainment. I really enjoy working with beginners and distilling down challenging topics in Computer Science to make the subject accessible to all. After working in industry for a few years, I worked as the lead instructor for the Girls Who Code Summer Immersion Program, where I taught high school students the foundations of Computer Science and Python was the primary language I taught. The team I led was rated #1 in Southern California for both learning outcomes and student satisfaction. After re-connecting with my love of teaching, I have gone back to graduate school with the hopes of one day becoming a professor in a computational domain, and I am starting my PhD at Princeton University in the Fall. My ideal students to tutor are beginners—high school and college students in the first few introductory courses or AP Computer Science should reach out to work with me! I can also teach introductory lessons in Data Science and Python as well. Additio

College Counseling

I have extensive experience in advising students to position themselves for successful STEM college applications; my former students have gone on to top STEM schools such as Stanford, Carnegie Mellon, UC Berkeley, and UCLA. As a PhD student at Princeton, I've come to realize that much of our core interests and passions remain remarkably consistent throughout the years—they just sometimes are hidden underneath the stress and overwhelm of the high school experience. My approach is centered upon laying the foundation for a joyful future college educational experience by tapping into those underlying core interests and developing an action plan that leverages your child's best skills and passions. I greatly enjoy helping students build a portfolio of projects they are passionate about and fostering confidence in tackling the STEM college application process through patient and encouraging coaching.

Extremely helpful, patient, and articulate

I booked a session with Brooke to help me set up and code my website. I have very little programming skill but she was able to explain the concepts in an easy-to-understand way. Brooke was very kind and patient with me as I asked basic questions. I will definitely be booking more sessions with her in the near future to help me with a Raspberry Pi project! Thanks Brooke!
