California State University Fullerton (Biology and Music)
I graduated cum laude from California State University, Fullerton. I majored in Biological Science (concentration in cell and developmental biology) and Music (concentration in classical piano), and pursued minors in Chemistry and Psychology.
Biology and Chemistry:
My knowledge in these two fields comes from the experience I have gained by working in the laboratory and not just by taking courses. During my undergraduate years, I was a Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) research scholar and participated in biochemistry and molecular biology research projects for three years, where I conducted research on trace metal transporters, HIV, and also performed molecular cloning. After graduation, I also worked for a biotech company involved in the production of vaccines. I have tutored both topics privately for seven years and also for one year at the tutoring center of Orange Coast College. Recently, I took my Dental Admission Test (DAT) and scored in the 99% percentile in both the biology and chemistry portion of the exam. After several years of teaching and working in the lab, explaining biological and chemical phenomena comes very natural to me and I can easily break down any complex topic into simple terms that are easily digestible.
Piano and Music Theory:
Piano teaching is unfortunately an unregulated field. Over 90% of the teachers out there have not had any training in teaching and gain minimal teaching skills by experimenting on their students. Pursuing a music degree is not just about playing an instrument. It also provides a vast knowledge of theory, history, the literature for the instrument, along with pedagogical training, all of which the average piano teacher lacks. I have been through an intensive one-year course of piano pedagogy and have been officially trained to teach the piano. With my involvement in other fields of study in addition to music, I have specialized in certain aspects of teaching and have a very unique approach when it comes to working with students. I greatly emphasize upon the neurological aspects involved in music, including how learning and memory occurs within the brain and various methods of mental preparation for performances. I also have an extensive knowledge of the human anatomy with respect to proper technique, injury prevention, and recovery from music-related injuries. Lastly, I was selected as a "Pianists in Performance" artist for CSUF during my last two years. I graduated cum laude from California State University, Fullerton. I majored in Biological Science (concentration in cell and developmental biology) and Music (concentration in classical piano), and pursued minors in Chemistry and Psychology.

I’m a second year college student and Ramin has been working with me on both biology and chemistry. He works efficiently and doesn’t waste time. He is extremely intelligent and detail-oriented, and his knowledge goes way beyond the material we cover. He has been showing me how to think critically and use deductive reasoning to break down problems in a logical fashion. I have been unenthusiastic about both topics since the beginning the semester, but now I actually care to learn. He consistently brings up applications of the material that apply to real life scenarios and ties them up to nutritional facts, various diseases, etc., which makes it very interesting to learn. Ramin is very personable, polite, and patient. Sometimes I could be slow in understating a particular topic, but he never judges me. Instead, he takes the time to explain it differently and tries to go with my pace. I wish I could have had a teacher like him earlier so I wouldn't have fallen behind. Luckily enough, I came across him and now I feel like I am ahead of the curve. I would recommend Ramin without hesitation.
I have had Ramin as my Chen tutor for three lessons and I have learned so much from him in a short amount of time. He is a very patient, intelligent, and passionate tutor and teaches with purpose. He always makes sure that I understand the material he is teaching, and always answers any questions I pose him. He is extremely knowledgeable about the material and breaks down difficult concepts into something that is easy to understand. I would like to thank him so much for everything he has taught me, it has immensely helped.
Really appreciated Ramin's passion, comprehensive knowledge, detail orientation and communication skills. Plus he took some extra time to make sure I was all set to begin. Looking forward to next time!
My pleasure John! I'm glad we had a robust start. I look forward to our future lessons as well!
My son was very impressed with Ramin. He said he really knew his stuff! He was very professional. Ramin tutored my son in honors biology (macromolecules, photosynthesis, cellular respiration) for a final exam. We will definitely be using him again! 5 stars!
Thank you Karin! I'm glad we had a very productive first lesson and delighted to hear such positive feedback! I look forward to working with your son again.
Ramin tutored Chemistry Honors for a high school sophomore. He was very patient and was able to give quick tips on learning more complex ideas in Chemistry.
Ramin has been helping me learn the foundations of chemistry for my Chem 1A class at UCI. He is thorough in teaching the concepts of each lesson, and his clear explanations make me confident that I know the material. Being well tuned-in to the student's comprehension is definitely one of his strengths. I would highly recommend him for a productive tutoring session, to feel completely in the concepts.
My daughter was struggling to understand some of the AP Biology elements but thanks to Ramin, she was able to wrap her head around it in no time.
Ramin was punctual, and very knowledgeable. Because of the scope and amount of material, we had a hard time finding an AP BIology tutor. He jumped right into the subject matter and honed in to my daughter's natural way of learning. She finished her lesson and was enthusiastic.
Thank you Joanne, for your kind words! I'm delighted to hear such wonderful feedback and glad I was able to spark enthusiasm in her. Your daughter is brilliant and it's a joy to work with her. I look forward to our future lessons.
I really liked that Ramin listened to what my son needs. My son is dyslexic and smart. He needs to hear the material in a different way and have it scheduled in manageable amounts. Ramin was conscientious and talented in his efforts to help my son learn and succeed in an out of the box way. We are experts in tutors as my son has had tutors for the past 10 years in many subjects.
Thank you Jill! It makes me very happy to hear that things are working well. He is indeed very smart, and with a little bit of extra help, I am certain that he will be quite successful.
The first thing my daughter said after her session with Ramin was "he such a good teacher...he helped me so much!" Ramin is very patient and knowledgeable. We will definitely use him again.
I appreciate your kind words! I'm glad I can help and delighted to hear such great feedback. I look forward to future lessons with your daughter.
Ramin is really understanding and is a really good tutor and with him I understood things in easy ways he taught me and I will definitely have him tutor me every week.
Ramin is very knowledgeable, kind, and patient. He is also flexible with his schedule. Very happy to have found him!
Thank you Kristin! I appreciate your nice feedback. I'm glad I can help and look forward to continuing working with your daughter.
Biology has never been a strong subject for my daughter. Ramin worked with her last year and we are continuing with him this year for AP biology. We also discovered that he’s a devoted pianist and has been giving her piano lessons as well. Ramin is very patient and is able to explain the material in many different ways. I’m always impressed with his examples! He is very passionate about the subject and does a fabulous job of explaining everything in simple terms while connecting everything to the bigger picture. What I really like about his approach is that, he periodically goes back and reviews the material that he just covered to ensure that my daughter really understands and remembers everything, instead of just lecturing her the whole time. Wonderful personality and an outstanding teacher!
Thank you for your kind words! It's truly been a pleasure working with you.
Ramin was very easy to communicate with and always responded promptly. My daughter was very nervous going into this, but after their session she was excited to learn more. She felt very comfortable with the subject matter thanks to Ramin's patient approach! We highly recommend Ramin!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a B.S. in biological science with a focus on cell and developmental biology and have tutored this topic privately for seven years and for one year at the tutoring center of Orange Coast College. Biology could be extremely tedious if the intention is to just memorize molecules and pathways. I really focus on connecting all the microscopic events to the bigger picture with real life examples to not only help my students remember the material better, but to spark enthusiasm and help them enjoy the topic.
I have a minor in chemistry and have taken four years of chemistry courses (general, organic, and biological chemistry as well as nutritional biochemistry and metabolism). I have been tutoring this topic privately for seven years and also for one year at the tutoring center of Orange Coast College.
I have had four years of music theory as a part of my music degree and have tutored this subject for the past five years.
I have a bachelor's in music (concentration in classical piano) with an extensive background in music theory and history. With one year of intensive pedagogical training and my involvement in other fields of study in addition to music, I have specialized in certain aspects of teaching and have a very unique approach when it comes to working with students. I greatly emphasize upon the neurological aspects involved in music, including how learning and memory occurs within the brain and various methods of mental preparation for performances.
