About Billie

I am a UCI honors graduate in mathematics with a minor in computer science. I started tutoring as a favor for a friend and have found that tutoring is one of the most rewarding experiences I can have. Many of my students have gone from D's with no understanding to A's with the ability to peer tutor their classmates. It is always wonderful to enter a student's home and hear "I got an A on the test!" or "the teacher says I am her most improved student."

I look for the concepts that students may not have totally grasped and help them get up to speed so that future classes are easy and fun. Most of my students continue to call me back on an "as needed" basis when they don't understand some one concept in class, even in college. I frequently am recommended by parents to friends and family members.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

In my opinion, Pre-Calculus is the most difficult math class offered at the high school level. The trigonometry portion presents many new and difficult concepts, but the algebra portion takes everything from Algebra II deeper making everything very complex and solving problems you don't really see any reason to solve. In truth, the main objective is to solidify your Algebra skills. Most of the problems that are presented are much more easily solved in Calculus next year.

SAT Math

There are several easy things that you can do to help your SAT math score. Knowing the Pythagorean triples will make several problems easier. Understanding basic Geometry, the formulas, and principles are also helpful. Using a book to learn the types of problems is good, memorizing the specific problems is not. Once you know which problems you are having problems with, it is important to learn how to solve all similar problems. The books are always easier than the test.

Great Tutor - Highly Recommend! — My daughter was a senior at a private Catholic High School last year, enrolled in Pre-Calculus. We had a teacher who was very new to teaching and caused the class to be a disaster for the students. About mid-year, after many conferences with the school, it was determined that my daughter needed a tutor to get through this class! We found Billy and my daughter's life changed! The stress went dow ...
