UCI Irvine (Master's)
I am a UCI honors graduate in mathematics with a minor in computer science. I started tutoring as a favor for a friend and have found that tutoring is one of the most rewarding experiences I can have. Many of my students have gone from D's with no understanding to A's with the ability to peer tutor their classmates. It is always wonderful to enter a student's home and hear "I got an A on the test!" or "the teacher says I am her most improved student."
I look for the concepts that students may not have totally grasped and help them get up to speed so that future classes are easy and fun. Most of my students continue to call me back on an "as needed" basis when they don't understand some one concept in class, even in college. I frequently am recommended by parents to friends and family members. I am a UCI honors graduate in mathematics with a minor in computer science. Billie is an excellent tutor - she helped my son understand difficult concepts in ways that teachers don't even seem to be able to do! She is patient and was very helpful in squeezing us in when we desperately needed help. I recommend her 100%!
Our daughter was struggling with Algebra 2/Trig. She has to work hard to understand math and Billie was very patient, answering questions, repeating processes over and over. She built confidence in our daughter and she started passing tests with very good results.
Billie helped our daughter to better understand and feel more confident in the subject matter for her Accelerated Pre-Calculus course. She has a very thorough grasp of the material and an excellent manner of helping the student work through practice problems and develop tools to solve problems on their own. When exam time approached, Billie showed tremendous flexibility and dedication to spend the time our daughter needed in order to grasp the material and do well.
She has been very helpful to connect test taking challenges with thorough, step-by-step solutions. Her knowledge of the curriculum and teaching process is priceless.
We are very happy with Billie. She is a great precalculus tutor for our daughter. We love this WyzAnt service. I didn't know where to turn to find a good tutor, and I am happy that a friend told us about WyzAnt.
Billie is very knowledgeable and wonderful with kids. She is able to explain difficult concepts in ways that are easier to understand.
Billie has been a terrific tutor for my son. He is in community college and needs to take Algebra to fulfill basic requirements. Math has always been a big challenge for him and he has faced a lot of failure in it over the years. Billie, through patient guidance and clear explanation, has helped him pass and move on to the next level with confidence and a positive attitude. She really understands where her students are coming from and what they need to minimize the anxiety that often accompanies math for some kids. I highly recommend her as a tutor!!!
Late in the first semester, my granddaughter had a low D- and was failing all exams. With Billie's help, she improved to a C the first semester and a B the second semester.
Billie graciously sacrificed her time during her "off" hours to help my daughter with her Alg 2 coursework. My daughter was able to complete her assignment understanding the concepts Billie taught her.
My daughter enjoys working with Billie. She is patient with her student. She speaks with a kind and firm voice. Billie makes the student think about the issue, not just feed the student answers. Billie is like training wheels for a new rider. It has been two weeks. My student has shown confidence on the last test. I am encouraged by Billie's tutoring.
Billie is a fantastic tutor who employs a number of effective strategies to support and enhance the learning of her students. She is particularly effective with students needing extra learning support and has made a huge difference in our sons improved academic performance.
We would have no hesitation in recommending Billie as a tutor to anyone.
Billie has vast knowledge and experience. My daughter has benefited by Billie tutoring her and she has stated to me that Billie's tutoring has relieved her stress. Billie has a calm and patient tone about her which will put students at ease and become more receptive to the learning process.
I have had great results with Billie. She takes the time to explain any questions I have about my college algebra course. I don't know if I would have passed my class without her help. Thank you Billie!!
Great Tutor. Love the way Billie goes over many problems to make sure my son knows Calculus. He is succeeding again in Math thanks to Billie!
Billie continually provides the support my daughter needs in her honors pre-calculus class. She is patient and very methodical, which has been key to my daughter's understanding of the material. Billie has been able to identify areas of need, and then worked with my daughter on those key points. The low-stress manner in which Billie approaches math has helped to improve my daughter's confidence in her own ability to succeed.
I would like to bring to your attention that Billie is a great tutor and very patient. My daughter has already improved her Math grade. She has been doing an excellent job. Thank you Billie.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In my opinion, Pre-Calculus is the most difficult math class offered at the high school level. The trigonometry portion presents many new and difficult concepts, but the algebra portion takes everything from Algebra II deeper making everything very complex and solving problems you don't really see any reason to solve. In truth, the main objective is to solidify your Algebra skills. Most of the problems that are presented are much more easily solved in Calculus next year.
There are several easy things that you can do to help your SAT math score. Knowing the Pythagorean triples will make several problems easier. Understanding basic Geometry, the formulas, and principles are also helpful. Using a book to learn the types of problems is good, memorizing the specific problems is not. Once you know which problems you are having problems with, it is important to learn how to solve all similar problems. The books are always easier than the test.
