In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) at the Irvine CA campus since 2002. I am the Coordinator of the Personal Counseling Dept., and direct the counseling dept. activities at (4) California campuses. I have a masters degree in clinical psychology from Pepperdine University and have been a licensed marriage and family therapist since 2000. At FDIM, I counsel students with learning disabilities and work with the Admissions Dept. during the new student acceptance process. I meet with parents at new student orientation and talk to them about the psychological support. I work with faculty and staff regarding student related mental health, behavior and counseling needs. I analyze annual counseling data for trends in various student mental health categories.
