University of South Carolina
My name is Cooper and I am a recent graduate of University of South Carolina. In addition to obtaining my B.S. in Environmental Engineering, I am a diehard sports fan and an avid golfer.
Growing up, math was always relatively fun for me. Numbers, patterns and sequences came naturally, and I could always see the "WHY" behind the principles being explained in class. After two years as a peer tutor in college I realized that the math that confused so many of my fellow students just needed to be explained the way that I saw it. There are many different schools of thought pertaining to mathematics and students nowadays are forced to learn the method that works best for their teachers mind, and not their own! My approach to teaching and learning is "Do what works for your mind". I spend the first session with a student getting to know their methods of inductive and deductive reasoning so that I can better tailor my lessons to each student's unique learning style. I have never met a student I couldn't help and have typically seen improvements a whole letter grade or more!
As a tutor I am 100% committed to your child's success! I use my knowledge and experience to help your student thoroughly understand and become more confident in their problem solving abilities. Cooper is an amazing tutor- reliable, patient and very capable. He also takes the time to really prepare for the sessions and review any necessary school materials. My son has ADD. Cooper helped him focus in on the key strategies that work best with his learning style. My son really enjoyed working with Cooper too, so the process wasn't a chore. Although we used Cooper for regular school tutoring, our primary need was in preparing for the ACT test. My son had an amazing improvement in his score after working with Cooper. I would highly recommend Cooper.
Cooper is very patient and was very effective helping my son improve his ACT score for math and science by 4-5 points and helping him to achieve the desired composite score. He is reliable and and a very respectful and kind young man.
My son, a high school freshman, had been struggling with math for a while. Cooper has been tutoring him since the beginning of the school year and we have seen an improvement. My son understands the material better, and this has highly impacted his grades. His grades have gone up. We are very pleased with the results.
Our twins really liked Cooper. I liked his approach to the tutoring session. It was only the 1st session, so I will have more to say later. He was on time and very pleasant.
Cooper was impressive right from the start. He made himself available to the 4-5 days a week we needed help in preparing for the GED. As an adult taking the GED, there was a great deal to re-learn in a very short amount of time. Another tutor wouldn't take our assignment, said it was unrealistic to pass with just 3-4 weeks to prepare. Cooper came in with a 'can do' attitude, was very organized bringing his knowledge learned about the test, best ways to prepare, practice materials, created homework assignments, he sat and walked me through everything, sometimes over and over again until I got it. Above all he was very patient, friendly, we laughed, he made the whole experience tolerable. I wouldn't have passed the test without his dedication to helping me. I highly recommend Cooper for anyone of any age.
So happy we found this smart and warm young man. In a single lesson, my son's knowledge and confidence sharply increased. Thank you!
My son and my son's friend both enjoyed having Cooper as their tutor. He was able to make students refresh their memory and was able to keep boys focused and made it fun to learn.
Very Patient and calm. Helped my daughter with a new understanding of algebra. She had trouble with tests and he gave her practice tests which gave her greater confidence in the classroom, and she is now passing algebra. Last year she failed pre-algebra. This has been the best move we've made with her education.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been playing golf since I could walk. Throughout high school and college, I worked as a caddie at the local golf course. I also played varsity golf in high school and was on the club golf team at South Carolina. In addition to playing experience, I have given private lessons for the last two years to people I have caddied for. I am a 3 handicap.
