I have experience working with all kinds of students. My students have been small school children as well as doctoral candidates and corporate supervisors. I have had the privilege of attending some great schools and understand the skills and characteristics necessary to excel in them. Therefore, I am able to comfortably assist gifted students with their studies, as well as suggest areas for improvement in their education and college preparation.

As a doctorate student, I had the opportunity to co-teach a graduate course and I supervised three undergraduates in their research seminar. I have tutored many university students and have been thrilled to see them excell in their courses as a result.
One of my areas of specialty is aiding students from overseas (mostly from China, Korea, Saudi Arabia and Italy) and I am an expert ESL educator. I am fluent, or nearly fluent, in Mandarin, French and Italian.
Another area of specialty is standardized test preparation, especially the SAT and ACT (the reading and writing sections only). I am proud to say that I can earn perfect scores in those English sections, and I know the most effective tricks and strategies taught by the best prep-centers, such as Elite. My students usually see a 15-30% improvement in their scores (after completing my intensive program, which usually lasts two months).
I ensure that each lesson is geared toward clear goals and update students and parents regularly with the progress toward those goals. All of my students therefore see improvement.
I am familiar with state and national standards and the curricula in the Irvine district, Fairmont and Crean. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
After my studies of various business law issues in law school and my participation in graduate business plan competitions at the business school, I assisted businesses with their legal and strategic issues as both an attorney and a consultant.
After studying basic Mandarin Chinese in Mainland China for a year, I completed advanced language study at Cornell University and at the Inter-University Program for Chinese Language Studies, a program administered by UC Berkeley at Tsinghua University and considered the best advanced Chinese language program in the world.
I have taught English to speakers of various Romance and Asian languages for four years, both in classroom and individual settings, and to students ranging from ages five to forty. I have lived in many different countries, including China, and am therefore familiar with a variety of learning styles and expectations. I have helped students with their literature study and essays throughout my teaching/tutoring career. I've only deeply focused on it for the past four years--it's been a lot of fun!
