About Rachealyn

I am a California credentialed teacher for k-8th. I have taught first grade and kindergarten. I am currently not teaching because I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy in August. I currently do not have child care, so I am looking for positions where you would not mind me bringing along my three and a half month old. He is a very happy boy and likes playing in his car seat (he has a new toy that runs across the handle bars). However I am also available for online tutoring. I can create an individualized plan for any student where they can complete work, I can assess it, and we can video conference and chat about it to help them in any area where they are lacking. I am available for either of these options.

I love reading and writing, so my main focus is always on making this fun for my students so that they will also love it. I am an avid pinterest user and I am always looking for ways to make every subject more fun for my students. I also focus on studying techniques that will set your student up for success in the future. My hope is to help your child to learn how to study more effectively even if that means they eventually no longer need my help! I have a vast amount of teaching resources in my garage that range k-8 and across subjects. With all of my resources I know I can help your child to improve their skills in any subject!

Thank you so much for your time and interest.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have excelled in this subject every time I have come into contact with it. For some reason I just get it; it makes sense. I think that this subject is a struggle for a lot of people. Sometimes you just need to have it explained differently before it will click or before you will like it.

American History

I love American History. I think is is one of the most interesting subjects. People would be surprised by the things you can learn while studying this subject. There are always fun facts that are not taught in schools that can help children really grasp the concepts and dates.

Cooking

I cook constantly. I do dinner parties, and I have taught a lot of my friends how to cook as well. I am self taught, but I cook on a daily basis so that I can try new things and am constantly learning.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am currently going to school to become an elementary school teacher. I am in my third year and I have done a full year of student observation and one semester of student teaching. I am waiting right now to take my CBEST for my teaching degree as well.

English

I love literature and the interpretation of it. Spelling was always something that I had to try at harder than other students in my class so I know some really good study tricks for it. Overall English is one of my favorite subjects.

Geography

This subject was fun for me because of the interesting facts involved. Learning so much about different place. It is also amazing how the way that people live has everything to do with their geography. There are always interesting facts lurking in this subject.

Grammar

Grammar is hard to hold onto in this day and age where there is texting and instant messaging. A lot of students are not able to grasp the basics which later hinder them with the harder concepts. Setting a good foundation is the hardest part, but it is possible. Over the years I picked up many tricks to help me hold onto the basic grammar structure of the English language.

Literature

Literature is my favorite part of the English language. I love reading and writing. When you read, it opens up a whole new world. Usually for school purposes you have to interpret what you are reading, that is the hardest part because different people see different things. There are always underlying key concepts that remain the same for everyone and that is usually what needs to be drawn from the story.

Prealgebra

Math never came easy for me. I struggled a lot when I was younger. Although I struggled, once I understood a concept I couldn't get rid of it. There are a lot of ways to understand math, sometimes it just needs to be explained differently. Because it took me a little bit to understand it, I know several ways to explain it that will help anyone to grasp the concept easily.

Reading

Reading is one of my favorite pastimes. I always test high in reading comprehension because I love it so much. When I was younger I learned to read in Spanish first, then I had to learn how to read in English. I struggled because of this. English and Spanish are so different in the fact that you do not pronounce every sound in English like you do in Spanish. When I did my student teacher observation, I got to do reading circle with several students at once. I loved helping the students try and read through sentences without hesitation. It was an amazing experience. It really is a matter of practice, memory, and patience when it comes to reading.

Vocabulary

Vocabulary is fun and interesting. There are different meaning for some words depending on how you use them. So sometimes it can be confusing. I've found if you use the words in fun sentences or play games with the words, it makes it easier to remember and understand.

Writing

Writing can seem frustrating for many people. The whole process of writing, editing, and revising. On that note there are many ways to make writing fun!
