My tutoring specialty began many years ago when I was in High School tutoring the local elementary students. My success helping students then is what led me to teaching as a career. Tutoring is still my favorite thing to do because I enjoy working with the individual and getting to the heart of what that unique person needs. In group settings, I use ample differentiation because each student learns uniquely and has differing needs.
I have CA Clear Permanent credentials in the subjects of Chemistry, Geoscience (Earth Science), Multiple Subject (K to adult) and Special Education (mild/moderate with autism authorization). My masters is in Educational Administration from Concordia University. My teaching experience spans public High School and Middle School in LA and Orange County in chemistry, Geo-Science, Special Education, and Read 180 as well as Material Science for science teachers of High School.
I look for the motivation in each individual child and work with the whole child to develop a high level of overall academic self esteem while working on specific subjects. My two children attended University High School and we live near UCI in Turtle Rock. My tutoring specialty began many years ago when I was in High School tutoring the local elementary students. My daughter really liked Teresa. We have tried a few other tutors and Teresa was the first to be able to explain the material in a way that was easily understood. 5 stars.
Thanks, Mary! These are the rewards of teaching and I really appreciate this feedback!
My 11th grade son was near failing chemistry when we found Therese to tutor him. She immediately got him organized on his study skills but also showed him that he was able to grasp the content which raised his confidence across all classes. Therese is so familiar with these courses that she knew what they would be studying in the future so she was able to prepare him for what was to come. Her patience and flexibility was a great plus for our very busy (and sometimes disorganized) family. She was able to bring his grade up to a B from a D- before the semester ended. I only wish we had secured her earlier in the school year.
Thank you, Lori! You made my day.
Therese started teaching my shy and quiet twin daughters about two months ago. She very patiently worked with them for a month or so and there test scores started to improve and now they have achieved a full grade difference.
Therese really helped my son with his Chemistry final. He was not doing so well in class and ended up getting a B on the final. They only had one session and it really helped his grade.
I really appreciate your feedback and so glad to hear he raised his grade so dramatically!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a CA Clear Education Specialist Credential authorizing me to work with students who have any learning disability. I have had identified students in my general education classroom and was able to modify the lesson for them, which closed the learning gap. Also, I believe that all students can learn and grow. I do not ask, "How smart is this student?" but "How is this student smart?"
As an experienced teacher of General Chemistry for high school, I understand the CA state standards for high school chemistry and have the ability to break down the difficult concepts to help students understand them. Students will be able to understand word problems and formulas and apply them in their labs, homework, tests, and life. Mastering chemistry and realizing how much fun it is opens many doors and possibilities.
I have a CA Clear Permanent Multiple Subject Credential with CLAD (Cross-Cultural Language and Academic Development Certificate) and student teaching in first and fourth grade. I have experience teaching in PreK through 12th grade in all subjects, levels, and grades in self contained classrooms.
I have a CA State Permanent Credential for teaching Physical Science in high schools as a highly qualified teacher. I taught Physical Science in Capistrano Unified School District and Earth Science in Anaheim.
I can help students with study skills because I have a Permanent Clear Multiple Subject Credential as well as Chemistry and Earth Science with classroom experience in all of them. I have a masters in Educational Administration and have helped many students with their study skills. Mastering study skills is necessary for success in any subject.
