William Paterson University (English)
My name is Nancy T. and I am in love with the English Language. It's been an ongoing, long term love that is satisfied when I write, read or teach others about my passion. I have a B.A. from William Paterson University, which is in New Jersey. I live in Imperial Beach, CA with my husband. We have a dog named Sinatra- he is a Basset Hound and we also have 3 kitties. Aside from reading and writing, I enjoy going to the movies, dining out, and great discussions. I have taught students with Special Needs as an Instructional Assistant in a school that took students with learning disabilities and severe behavior problems. It was the most fun job I have ever had and I learned so much there. I especially learned about teaching.
My philosophy of teaching is to be positive with my students and to only move on to the next step if I am sure they have grasped the concepts being taught in the step they are working on. It is important for students to be successful by REALLY understanding what they are being taught. Being confident is at the heart of having self esteem. I want, most importantly to develop in my students a love of learning, and a desire to ask important questions. I believe a good teacher opens students up to the wide breadth of experience that the world offers. Learners deserve the best opportunities to learn. Learning is fun!
I am enthusiastic, fun and engaging. I love English and words and I consider it an honor to pass these things along. When someone can express themselves their world widens.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
