Bio

Hello! My name is Nazmieh but I go by the name Nona and I am a mother of two. I've lived in Egypt for the past ten years and tutored students during that time in Arabic. I love the Arabic language and I enjoy helping others learn it. I started tutoring because after being a stay-at-home mother for a long time I wanted to be productive and busy with something. So I got the idea to tutor after helping my neighbor's 11 year old daughter with schoolwork in Arabic and realizing that I was good at it. Ever since then I've learned how to be a better tutor through trial and error and I've grown to love it. I'm a native Arabic speaker. I have a Bachelor's in Applied Chemistry, and an equivalence degree from the United States. My original degree is from Damascus University. I lived in California for eight years before moving to Egypt, and I just moved back to California this summer. I am hoping to help you discover the beauty of the Arabic language. I do not have a teaching credential but I have helped students in elementary to high school in Arabic Literature and Grammar.

So if you are a beginner or intermediate learner in Arabic I can help you. I've taught people who were completely illiterate in Arabic to read and write. And I have helped students in Egyptian schools improve their grades and perform better academically in school while understanding the school content. My father was a writer and an Arabic teacher so he also gave me tips when I started. My approach is to first asses your level if you have any knowledge of the Arabic language, and to help you reach your goals. If you want to read and write I will practice the letters with you and the pronunciation and help you understand the grammar rules depending on your level. If you need to strengthen your vocabulary or reading comprehension skills I am happy to read short stories or passages in Arabic with you and help you understand them with discussion and repetition. We could even listen to Arabic songs and poetry and discuss their meaning! I prefer to
