About Kristin

Hi All! I am currently employed as an Academic Advisor in Orange County and part time at Saddleback College. I have worked in the classroom and now as an administrator for over 7 years. I studied people's patterns of behavior and the brain in my undergraduate degree (B.A. in Psychology) and refined my counseling skills in graduate school (M.S. in Counseling). I graduated in 2012, and am gearing up to go back to school again for a second Master's in Educational Leadership. I love working with students and families to navigate the college application process, and developing a plan for student's who aren't quite sure where they are headed yet. My previous student's have been accepted throughout the UC and CSU systems including: UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC Davis, and UCLA.

In between my positions within school districts, I took a three year hiatus to work as an administrator in a non-profit organization focusing on developing programs for those with special needs. I have experience with a variety of emotional, behavioral, and health issues within student populations. I believe that every student has the right to learn and grow as an individual, and I love to facilitate that.

I have a flexible schedule and usually am ready to tutor as soon as the school day ends. Over the summer I run study groups, work on skill mastery, and keeping up with subject curriculum to prepare for the new school year. Feel free to contact me if you have questions about the college application process, testing, or need advisement in course selection based on your 4-year plan.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Autism

I first began my work in schools as a specialist in the Special Education department. I have experience writing and navigating IEP's, 504 plans, as well as SST accommodations for testing purposes. I worked as a case manager for three years in an at-home therapy model supervising therapists and developing ABA programs for individuals with Autism.

Career Development

I currently work in advising at the high school level in a local school district. I work with a large number of students to assess their interests, and find programs and universities where they can best explore these options.

CBEST

I have successfully passed the CBEST exam.

College Counseling

I currently am employed with a local school district providing college counseling services. I have my M.S. in Counseling with an emphasis in schools and adolescents.

Handwriting

I have worked with students at the K-12 levels to establish good penmanship for job applications and preparing presentations. I can tutor or assist in handwriting for print or in cursive.

Special Needs

I first began my work in schools as a specialist in the Special Education department. I have experience writing and navigating IEP's, 504 plans, as well as SST accommodations for testing purposes. Additionally I have worked with a variety of individuals with special needs through my work with Easter Seals.

Study Skills

I work with students every day to teach time-management, organizational skills, and schedules to best fit their needs and the needs of their courses. Many students struggle to balance AP/IB/Honors courses due to the time that is necessary to invest in them, I can help to create a strategy that will keep your students organized and ensure they prioritize tasks to complete them faster.
