About Sharon

I have been a homeschooler since 1998 teaching Pre-K through high school. I took and passed the CBEST (California Basic Skills Test) in 2013. I still have one student at home who is at the high school level. I own and operate my own busines from home during the day, as well as sell products that I sew and crochet online. I have worked as a teacher for my church in the AWANA's Sparky age group. I enjoy teaching reading and phonics the most. As a teacher at home I've learned that having a good curriculum to work with is essential and can make all the difference in the world.

As a mom and teacher of a graduated student with Autism Spectrum Disorder, I've also learned that everyone learns differently. When one approach doesn't work, it's time to take a step back and reevaluate to find a new way to present the subject. My ultimate goal as a teacher is to pass on a love of learning because in reality... we truly never stop learning throughout our lives.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have taught K-6th homeschool to both of my children, my oldest is now a high school graduate and my youngest is a sophomore in high school. In 2013, I took and passed the CBEST (multiple subject) exam. I have taught the Spark age group (K-2) of AWANAS for my church. I enjoy working with the elementary age level, especially teaching them to read through the use of phonics. Arts and crafts are also a great learning tool for this age group as they develop a love for learning.

Sewing

I passed basic sewing during Home Economics in High School. I have sewn clothing for myself over the past 30 years. I currently sell sewn and crocheted items online. I am familiar with creating buttonholes, installing zippers, using interfacing, hemming, pressing seams, mending and altering techniques. I consider myself and intermediate level seamstress.
