I’m Alec! I recently graduated from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) with a degree in Applied Mathematics. Admitted to the University as an Aerospace Engineering major, I transferred into the Mathematics department in my second year. The biggest lesson I learned in my classes is that teachers are the key to success. It is perfectly normal to struggle with courses when instruction is not personalized to your ways of learning! Admittedly, I have also struggled with certain topics in mathematics. It was challenging to transition into primarily teaching myself at the undergraduate level and those experiences have taught me methods to better absorb information presented. I found that lesson plans which identify the relevance and categorization of equations/theorems helps in understanding how to apply them.

Though I do not have prior tutoring experience with a company, I offered free assistance to high school classmates via the school’s free lunch tutoring program and college peers via UCSD’s Society for Undergraduate Mathematics Students (SUMS). I have experience with countless mathematical disciplines such as Trigonometry, Precalculus, Calculus, Statistics, and Linear Algebra, as well as AP/SAT/ACT preparation (all of which I received the highest scores possible with respect to math).

I understand math is a subject many struggle with, so I wish to demonstrate patience and personalize each lesson to allow students the ability to learn at their own pace. I intend to provide supplemental material (practice exercises and exams comparable in difficulty) as extra practice between sessions. I will respond very quickly to any messages/concerns so please do not hesitate to let me know if I may be of assistance! Mathematics is a relatively fun and easy subject when taught properly and I hope that I can help even one student develop an appreciation for it in the future!
