My name is Monique-Rafheala, and I just recently graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in History (Teaching Track) from CSUSB. My goal is to become a History Professor, and I plan to return for my Master's and Credential in Education in the upcoming year. I aspire to help students continue their path toward achieving their goals. As a tutor I look to enhance my skills in regards to teaching and helping students before I start my career as a teacher. This is a great opportunity to obtain/enhance new and current knowledge to help me be a successful teacher while helping local students from my community.
After graduating high school, I volunteered as an AVID Tutor at Cajon High School. I feel the skills necessary to being a successful tutor and helping students is to have patience, persistence, and to be encouraging. A student needs someone to be patient with them; to not expect them to understand the material the first time. That is where persistence and encouragement kick in. A tutor has to encourage the student to continue working on the material no matter how many times it takes. Finally, the tutor must be persistent in order for the student to become persistent. I feel as though I qualify to be a valuable tutor because I understand the frustrations of not understanding what you are learning. I've overcome those frustrations and I can help your student overcome those as well. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
