About Amanda

As an honors/AP student, I have received a community service award for tutoring students. I was in the AVID program in high school. I used my AVID skills to graduate in the top 20% of my class. I find tutoring rewarding because I am in the process of getting my teaching degree and I love to assist others in understanding the curriculum. My tutoring style will not only help you get your homework done but it will assist in organization skills, comprehension, and better grades.

I specialize in Math, English, and studying for the SAT, ACT, and GED. Math is my major in college and my targeted subject for teaching at the high school level. I plan on going on to teach at the college level after I get experience at the high school level. I will give a generic assessment test at the beginning of my tutoring just to see where the student is struggling academically, and I will test periodically to check for understanding and improvement.

I offer a free consultation to verify that my tutoring style is compatible with the student and/or adequate to the parents. My time is very valuable so, I have a 6 hour cancellation policy that I adhere to.

I look forward to meeting you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Study Skills

In my freshman year of high school, I was accepted into the Avid program. We learned different studying techniques including; the use of flash cards, Cornell notes, and time management (which in my opinion, is the most important skill). In my senior year I became an officer of the program and a mentor to incoming Freshmen.

Theater

In high school I was heavily involved with the Theatre Program. I made honor status in the National Thespian Society by my Sophomore year. I volunteered in the acting class where I was a Student Director. I had to rehearse lines, teach projection and character development to other students. I successfully directed my first show, my Junior year. I continued in college, mostly on the acting side. I also started my own Theatre Company and produced and directed Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing".

Volleyball

I played volleyball at Valley Wide Recreational Center for 8 years. After a knee injury I stayed involved by being an asst. coach for Kelly Fromm at Valley Wide. I had one on one stretching and technique sessions with the girls.
