Having been a public accountant, controller and investment manager, I have a thorough knowledge of mathematics. I will use this background to teach my students and encourage them to enjoy mathematics. My methodology is eclectic, and based on the needs of the student. Because of my background, I have a working knowledge of statistics used in a practical way: i.e. using a bell-shape curve to project probabilities of a future event. My major in undergraduate school was accounting/economics. I used this background to become an investment manager in a bank, where I was required to maintain a current knowledge of economic events occurring over my thirty-year career. I look forward to teaching and imparting the knowledge that I have accrued to my students. John is a great tutor with practical applications that he uses for specific students needs. He takes the time to help the student understand the problems. He works at the student pace and will only progress when the student is ready to move on.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a retired banker who spent his entire career dealing with numbers and hence, I feel eminently qualified to tutor in math. I've also traveled extensively and tutored my son, who has ADD/ADHD, in geography when he was in high school so I feel qualified to tutor geography also.
Having been a math major in college and having worked in the financial field, I feel that I can apply the skills of Algebra that I learned in the business world to improving the students' knowledge of mathematics. For example, one of the algebraic functions that I am familiar with is factoring, breaking down an algebraic equation into its basic form. I can teach a student how to set up an algebraic equation to solve for an unknown quantity.
I am a graduate acountant who spent five yearsin public accounting, analyzing financial statements of the following companies: Celanese, Faberge, Ronson Corporation, etc. I taught business skills at the Financial Institute for Savings and Loan in Scarsdale, New York. In teaching business, I use an eclectic method combining my practical experience with my book knowledge. Currently, I am the business manager for Spanish Works, Inc. in Healdsburg, CA.
I am a graduate accountant who spent his entire career dealing with mathematical problems. In addition I worked in accounting for approximately ten years. After that I worked in banking where I managed various investment portfolios. I have tutored my son in high school math and am currently tutoring a student in math for the PSAT test and a graduate student preparing for the GRE test.
I am a graduate accountant who spent 9 years in public accounting dealing with mathematical problems. The rest of my career was spent in banking again dealing with mathematical problems. My tutoring experience was with my son tutoring him in high school math and am currently tutoring a student in math for the PSAT test and a graduate student preparing for the GRE test. I feel this experience qualifies me to tutor in elementary math.
Since I have a mathematical background (major in Accounting in college) with many math courses in my academic profile, I feel qualified to instruct students in the subject of geometry. I also have a keen analytical mind and feel that I can get to the essence of a student's mathematical difficulties. I enjoy the challenge of analyzing the relationship of various geometrical figures. I look forward to teaching students in this discipline in the Northern Sonoma County area.
I've been involved with math during my entire academic and professional career. In addition, I had teaching experience in a business seminar and tutoring my son throughout his high school career. I feel that with these experiences I will be able to understand your problem and help you to solve it.
I was an accounting major in college with an emphasis in math. Recently I've tutored students in math as they were preparing to take the PSAT and GRE tests and they did quite well. I use an interactive method while tutoring. I have the student work on problems and if they have difficulty, they are to ask questions. Afterward, I review a similar problem to see if they have mastered the concept. I am qualified through WyzAnt to teach the GRE, PSAT, SAT, GED, and SSAT math segments. I am also qualified to teach basic science. Both the math and science components are part of the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) so I feel qualified to tutor for this exam.
