Pomona College (Theater Arts)
I am an extremely talented, highly accomplished published author, educator and workforce developer with over 15 years of experience working for diverse organizations, schools and communities. I am the esteemed author of five books as well as two DVD's and numerous grants. I excel in teaching and motivating, with the keen ability to engage an audience of one or one thousand and increase student or worker achievement. My resume includes experiences as a tutor, coach, instructor, workshop facilitator, actor, pastor and writer. One of the highlights of my career was my nine year stint as a Literacy Specialist/Small Groups Instructor for San Mateo County’s Project Read. In this position I was charged with assessing the literacy skills of small groups and individuals and then designing and implementing a program that would enable them to achieve specific goals. Over the years my students have included youth and adults with learning challenges as well as college students and professionals with limited soft skills.
My goal in taking on any tutoring client is to work myself out of a job by equipping that client with the tools and confidence to excel independently. As such, I am extremely discerning in my initial sessions and will ask questions, observe as well as use both traditional and non-traditional tools to assess the problem. From there I will work with the client to establish specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely goals. My students, both young and old generally describe me as encouraging, creative, compassionate, persistent, funny and insightful. There is nothing more satisfying to me than watching my clients bloom.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am an ordained Christian minister with a unique blend of communication skills developed over the past 20 years. I graced auditoriums, schools, churches, museums, theater and film sets internationally with my prodigious talent as an actor, workshop facilitator and motivational speaker. I spent 9 years as a literacy specialist assigned to a delightful group of 80 plus year old senior citizens as well as to hundreds of adults recovering from drug addiction. My continuous goal was to empower my students to step up and speak out. In the interim, I created several one person shows to illuminate the causes of the students I worked with. San Francisco audiences will likely remember my critically acclaimed “Dirty Laundry” as well as my stint as the understudy for Whoopi Goldberg in “Moms”. International audiences will likely recall me as the immortal Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune or as one of trio of characters in the revelatory drama entitled “Hiding Out”.
My resume also includes teaching courses in Speech, Public Speaking, Acting, Improvisational Comedy and Overcoming Communication Barriers for the California and Alaska Arts Council, Western Career College, San Jose L.E.A.R.N.S., Academic Study Associates-University of California, Berkeley and Women’s Health Leadership, Sacramento.
My most recent challenge has been about equipping people for success in the workforce and I have spent quality time teaching soft skills to youth and adults, especially those with multiple barriers to employment.
I served for four years as Associate Pastor for God’s Hand Extended Christian Fellowship in Dublin, and was responsible for teaching and preaching biblical strategies for successful living.
