California State University East Bay (Statistics)
Stats is my specialty, but I also know the ins and outs of algebra, linear algebra, and calculus. I can also instruct on the use of software related to stats, such as SPSS, SAS, Excel Megastat, and Minitab.
I noticed many students have trouble in this area, and its needed for so many majors: Psychology, Business, Biology, Applied Math, Sociology, Geography......etc. I know it's hard. My personal mission is to make you sharp and confident so you can get through it with as little emotional scarring as possible (and practically learn Greek in the process).
What I can help you with
-Baye's Theorem and Rule
-Expectation, Variation, and Covariation
-All the known distributions
-Uniform, Binomial, Exponential
Gamma, Beta, Chi-Square, T,.... etc.
And calculation of their parameters and m(t) functions
-Transition matrices, long run distributions
-T tests, Z tests, confidence intervals
-ANOVA, Factorial ANOVA, Block designs and repeated measures designs
-Post hoc tests and contrasts
-Linear, Multiple, and Logistic Regression
-Model selection and residual analysis
All can be done using aforementioned software. I stress the interpretation of stats when I teach, because I know the instructors do as well. Simply plugging formulas/programs isn't going to get that A on your stat project.
I like to approach problems from different angles with different examples. I go over the math as well as purpose and application. There comes a point when the student internalizes the concept and is then able to adapt the formulas to their problems. I aim to reach this point with every student.
I usually meet students in public or college libraries for the quiet atmosphere.
Education and Experience:
I have a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Statistics from California State University East Bay
I've worked as a tutor through my university and independently for over a year. I've built up a network of students who have referred me to their friends. In fact, I heard about this site from a student. Stats is my specialty, but I also know the ins and outs of algebra, linear algebra, and calculus. I can also instruct on the use of software related to stats,
Tim taught Austin to look at details and not take short cuts....very focused...hope this continues today in preparation for the test tomorrow...
Timothy was very helpful in explaining many STATS concepts to me. The session that Timothy provided helped me to comprehend the material for my next class session. I actually need what the professor was talking about. Thanks.
Tim is a great tutor. He makes stats easy to understand and has a knack for teaching. Highly recommended!
Timothy is a great Stats teacher. Very patient and knowledgeable. He understood the concepts and the presented problems right away.
Very excellent tutor. He make the material very easy. I had Tim for help with stat and he was very helpful. I am really at any kind of math but for the 1 hr he help me I started to have a better understanding. Wish I had more money to get more tutoring time with him.
I have issues with people who beat around the bush and don't tell me specifically things that I need to know and to the point. I get frustrated and lost with my ADHD, but Timothy was not only very knowledgeable but to the point and patient. When I told him my concerns and what I needed, he addressed them directly and to the point, and I only had to say it once. It was like a dream come true.
He helped me with SPSS and paired t-test. Really knowledgeable, chill, awesome guy. He took 250 pounds of stress off my shoulders for my dissertation. Thanks Timothy!
Timothy made my experience of learning "stats and probability" a pleasant one. With Tim's patient, unique, and fundamental form of teaching, I was able to absorb information that I considered "Greek" to me. Thank you, Tim!
Timothy made the scheduling and preparation process very easy. His email replies were prompt as was his arrival for the lesson. He had a very strong knowledge of the material and he covered most of the topics needed within the hour. His explanations were helpful to my daughter and she can apply them towards studying for her upcoming test.
Tim knows his stuff. He simplified statistics in a way that just made sense. I was able to quickly reach him and confirm a meeting. I will be using his services again.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
