About Dean

The focus of my education and employment has been fine art and design. I hold a BA in art and an MFA in painting (minor printmaking), both from U.C.L.A.. Post-graduate classes were completed at Art Center and Otis Parsons Schools of Design, U.C.L.A. Extension, etc.
I have 11 years of art teaching experience at various Southern California colleges including El Camino and L.A. Harbor Colleges. My instruction of young art students has been for L.A. Pierce College Community Services, L.A. Parks and Recreation and a Los Angeles County Museum of Art childrens workshop. At the Joslyn Art Center in Torrance, CA., I was an instructor/supervisor in the two-dimensional art department (childrens and adult classes, workshops, exhibitions, etc.).
I am a practicing fine artist who has had 3 one-man art shows and participated in numerous juried, group and faculty exhibitions. This includes the Los Angeles County Museum of Art New Talent/New Work Show. For 2013-14, I have presented art in 4 juried art shows.
My commercial art experience equals 15 years, much of which was gained as a graphic artist for Sunrider International in Torrance, CA. The other positions include graphic designer for two colleges and a university, art director for a corporation and a web designer for a city.
I believe my broad background in art and design enables me to be a valuable and effective instructor, especially for beginning students.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
