I have had over twenty years' teaching experience at the elementary level. I understand the difficulties people face when learning new skills. I have many strategies that can help overcome those difficulties. I have always loved learning new things and continue to be a life-long learner. I wish to share the joy that comes with discovery.
Along with my teaching experience, I have a Music Minor from Cal Poly, I'm a Yoga instructor, I am a skilled artist, and I tutor math. I enjoy travel, hiking, swimming in the ocean, and spending time with my family. (My two sons are both currently in elementary school).
Hopefully I can be of service to you through knowledge and understanding.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a music minor from Cal poly (S.L.O.) and have been playing piano since age five ( I am almost forty-seven) and guitar since I was thirteen. I have taught privately guitar and piano in the past. I have also taught music throughout my twenty years teaching elementary school. I am well aquainted with the techniques of Carl Orff.
I taught elementary school for twenty years and tutored students in after school programs such as Math and Reading and Writing. At Cal Poly and UC Riverside, requirements are that teachers learn proper scaffolding and have a proper scope and sequence for student learning. Study skills come from inside those structures. Students learn to manage their learning styles by identifying strengths and weakness. Multiple measures of assessment verify efficacy of a created program and automatically steer the learner toward his/her goal(s). Examples of study skills are: time on task (dedication) consistency of study time and place, understanding order of operation, defining clear objectives and timeline, and viewing target goal(s) from various angles and employing various strategies to achieve goal(s).
