For the past 20 years I have been committed to developing children's English and reading abilities, drawing from my experience as a K-3 teacher and as a writer/editor of English Language Arts textbooks for major education publishers.
I like to think I have a unique tutoring style through the use of creative techniques, strategies and materials which in turn help children master reading, writing, speaking, and language skills. Each session begins with a discussion of your most recent assessment and together we'll plan lessons to help develop the skills you need
I look forward to working together as your online or in-person tutor. Please call to schedule a lesson or for any general questions, and we can begin to work out the best tools and methods to move your learning forward.

As an executive editor of Elementary English Language Arts/Literacy programs for major education publishers, I have created instructional materials for teachers that are aligned with the Common Core Standards. Students learn to read, write, speak, listen, and use language effectively in all the content areas. They engage in reading increasingly complex texts and in critical-thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

My academic background and teaching experience have prepared me to design meaningful learning experiences that support children's development as English speakers, readers, and writers. For more than a decade, I have worked as a writer and editor of elementary English Language Arts textbooks, and I have acquired a large toolkit of strategies and instructional approaches to develop children's literacy skills.
Vocabulary,

Vocabulary

I love learning words for new situations and for describing everyday experiences. I am a creative teacher and have a large toolkit of strategies and materials to help students develop an interest in words and their meanings. I will foster a love of learning new words to discuss and write about literature and to expand students' listening and speaking vocabulary in all situations. I will provide vocabulary instruction that focuses on: teaching individual words, teaching students about words, choosing the right words for specific situations, and using the dictionary and related reference tools to deepen their knowledge of words.

Knowledgeable, patient, and very thorough.

Diane came prepared more than I could ever imagine! She is so patient with my son and her ability to read his cues and change up the lesson if need be. Her well thought out lessons are catered to my son and his abilities. She meets him where he is at and is building his confidence every time we see her. I would highly recommend Diane to anyone needing tutoring services.
