About Breanne

I am highly qualified to tutor at the elementary and Middle School level. I have been teaching for 11 years, I have two Master's degrees, one in education (LMU), and one in educational leadership (USF). I have received my clear teaching credential and have served on three WASC boards. Currently, I am teaching Middle School Language Arts, History, and Art.

I have taught 5th grade for five years and Middle School for five years. In addition, I have worked with diverse populations and students with alternative learning needs in the subjects of Language Arts, History, Mathematics, Religion, and Art. In addition, I have administrative experience at the Elementary and Middle School levels. Providing opportunities for children to set goals and strive to achieve them is a part of supporting students as lifelong learners. In addition, I maintain open lines of communication with parents. Just recently, I wrote my graduate thesis titled, Open lines of communication: Forming teacher-parent alliances to ensure student success.” I believe that the bonds between school and home impact students and their social, intellectual, and personal growth. As an educational leader, I am committed to forming alliances between school and home to support students' personal achievement.

As a former collegiate swimmer, I know it takes to be a student-athlete and I support students who are working hard both in and out of school. During my free time, I enjoy swimming, running, biking, cooking, gardening, and art. I look forward to the opportunity to work with students to help them build the confidence they need to be more successful at school.

I have studied communication, education, and leadership throughout my educational career. I believe that adults, especially teachers, need to provide opportunities for students to learn and express their thoughts and feelings. In addition, it is imperative that children are heard and appreciated.

I am patient, experienced, and compassionate. I am passionate about my career in education and believe that children want to learn and be heard.

Social Studies is a broad sweeping topic. To me, it means being able to understand your community, the world around us, and other cultures. Reading about, speaking with, and learning about the members of our community helps us understand and connect with the world around us.

All children want to learn and be successful. In order for that to happen, children need passionate, patient, and compassionate adults who want to nurture the growth and success of students. This goes for students of all ages, abilities, and developmental needs.

I work with children from August through June. Instead of enjoying two months of vacation during the summer, I would rather be helping students develop the confidence they need and receive the support that is necessary for them to be successful in school.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been teaching for 11 years, and have earned two Master's degrees, one in education (Loyola Marymount University), and one in educational leadership (University of San Francisco). I have earned my Multiple Subject Clear Teaching Credential and have served on three WASC boards. Currently, I am teaching Middle School Language Arts, History, and Art.

English

I have taught 5th grade for five years and Middle School for six years. As an educator and learner, I believe it is essential to stay challenged and engaged both professionally and intellectually.

Just recently, I wrote my graduate thesis titled, “Open lines of communication: Forming teacher-parent alliances to ensure student success.” I believe that it is important to stay challenged and to lead and teach students by setting an example, which is why I have chosen to include my latest graduate school writing project.

Literature

Currently, I am teaching 6th and 7th grade Language Arts, and have done so for the past six years. I have the experience and background, and I have also been an integral part of the incredible developments in my students' passion for reading. While reading books such as "A Tale of Two Cities" and "Anne's Frank," I have witnessed students' fascination, comprehension development, and higher level thinking skills develop because of my approach to reading.

Reading and understanding can be a challenge for many, and by asking questions, engaging students in discussions, and asking them what they think are ways to connect the text to the lives of students today.

Social Studies

I am qualified to teach Social Studies for several reasons. Firstly, I have my multiple subject clear teaching credential. I have been teaching at the elementary and Middle School levels for 11 years, and I have two Master's degrees. In addition, I have experience in teaching a variety of time periods in History including the rise of civilization and the Fertile Crescent, early Greeks and Romans, as well as the French and American Revolutions. I have implemented an innovative approach to connecting my students with history by integrating curriculum set forth by Stanford History Education Group (SHEG) which invites students to analyze, question, and connect with history. I implement "current events" into the curriculum to provide opportunities for students to read the news, analyze, and create a summary based on their understanding of the reading, and present it to the class in a "newsroom" format. Presentations are followed by discussions of the impact and lessons current events have on the world around us.
