I have taught K-12, (and university) language arts, math, science, history, and ESL. My credentials include a Ryan Lifetime, Math, Science, Clear Special Ed./RSP and CLAD-SDAIE (Specially Designed Academic Instruction in English) certification for English learners. I got my Master's degree in 2006 in Teaching and Learning as well. I worked with adult ESL students for 2 years in Colton USD. I LOVE working with students who need help in middle school math/science/language arts and/or history. I basically have credentials to teach anything, but I LOVE helping upper elementary to middle school students with critical thinking/basic skills in just about any subject. Teaching is my passion and I try to make LEARNING a passion for my students.

Public Speaking

I presently teach leadership skills in the extension class at U of CA, Riverside. I was president of the Inland Empire debate Society in 2010, appeared in debates on TV, and have monitored public speaking presentations for classes I teach for about 40 years. My paper for my Master's degree was on Neuro-Linguistic Programming: basically, how to get students to respond to ideas they would rather not...like critical thinking!

I have a Ryan Lifetime elementary credential, I began teaching 4-6 grade in 1968 and retired from those grades as a sub in 2013. I know the curriculum extensively - I helped develop both math and history curriculum, programs, and materials for my district over the years. My 2006 Master's degree is in Teaching and Learning. As a sub, I taught K-12. As a regular teacher, I taught 6-8 (38 years). As a summer school teacher, I taught 4-6 and at-risk 6-8 students over a period of 20 years... very successfully.
Study Skills,

Study Skills

I specifically taught study skills for the 38 years I was in the classroom, the 7 years I subbed, and now as a professor. I would say these skills are basic to improvements in any area of expertise: studying the subject in detail and relating that subject to others begins with attention to, i.e. "studying" it. That is the lesson learned when one develops the "skills". And skills must be practiced. It is my job to show students how to do that.

Hello, I taught K-12 Language-Arts skills from 1968 to 2013, in Riverside USD and Colton USD , and now, part-time, at UCR for English Learners in the International program. I have credentials in Elementary and Secondary Ed. as well as an MA in Teaching and Learning, and I delight in applying my skills to help my students “upgrade” theirs. Learning to work with language skills makes every subject more approachable, comprehensible, and, maybe, even, enjoyable ! I am available after school and weekday evenings.

Anthropology,

Anthropology

As a practicing anthropologist, I worked in the field obtaining and processing artifacts. As a cultural anthropologist, I have lived in, studied, and compared customs/cultures, and belief systems in Asia and Latin America as well as regional ones in the U.S.A. I am familiar with terms and practices used in ethnic studies and cross-cultural comparisons and can explain them to students.
Social Studies,

Social Studies

I taught Social Studies at the elementary, middle school, and high school level. The texts I used included early history (U.S., world) to present, as well as political and cultural influences and social belief systems. Social Studies covers a lot of territory. I find all of it stimulating and try to interest my students in the relevancy of what they are learning to present events.
