About Joseph

I am an experienced Marriage and Family Therapist, and registered behavior technician with experience working with adults and children with autism or adhd/add. I have been trained in ABA (applied behavior analytics) and RDI (relationship development intervention), and I have worked with clients of a wide age range from children to adults.
My work has aided individuals struggling with irregular study patterns or social driven difficulties across a variety of settings including classrooms, work, home and social environments. I have a unique skill set that can help boost confidence and produce improved work habits. My strength is helping individuals improve self-help skills, social skills, independence, efficiency in study habits and improving effective communication.

My experience is bolstered by my current status as a Registered behavior technician (RBT-16-12239), and Marriage and Family Therapist Intern (#71748) with over 3,000 clinically supervised hours to my credit.

Also, I have played and coached basketball for 20 years. I love the game and I enjoy sharing my experience with anyone willing to learn. So if basketball is an area of interest, this can be incorporated into our sessions!

As a writer, I also enjoy sharing my experience and knowledge of the English language and I can provide effective creative and structured writing tutoring.

I enjoy meeting new people and sharing my experience, I'm a team player.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

As a mental health therapist and registered behavior technician, I have a unique skill set in working with children with autism and ADHD/ADD. I have worked in school and home settings with children with special needs for over 10 years, and I have had a lot of success. Primarily, what I find in cases working with ADD/ADHD, is the child needs to unlock areas of interest, even if an assignment or task is non-preferred. This is a challenge for many, but when the individual's attention span is much shorter, this presents difficulty. I help children with short attention spans to create a space (mentally, and environmentally) where expanding attention is more easily achieved.

Autism

I am an Registered Behavior Technician, meaning I have certification through the BACB to work with children diagnosed with autism, in various settings, including schools and home.
I have worked with children and adults on developing better study techniques, self help skills and self management for over 10 years.
Autism must be addressed on an individualized basis, and I have experience working with a great deal of individuals in almost every setting you can think of.

Vocabulary

I have taught vocabulary to middle school, high school, college level (and higher) readers.
