In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a mental health therapist and registered behavior technician, I have a unique skill set in working with children with autism and ADHD/ADD. I have worked in school and home settings with children with special needs for over 10 years, and I have had a lot of success. Primarily, what I find in cases working with ADD/ADHD, is the child needs to unlock areas of interest, even if an assignment or task is non-preferred. This is a challenge for many, but when the individual's attention span is much shorter, this presents difficulty. I help children with short attention spans to create a space (mentally, and environmentally) where expanding attention is more easily achieved.
I am an Registered Behavior Technician, meaning I have certification through the BACB to work with children diagnosed with autism, in various settings, including schools and home.
I have worked with children and adults on developing better study techniques, self help skills and self management for over 10 years.
Autism must be addressed on an individualized basis, and I have experience working with a great deal of individuals in almost every setting you can think of.
I have taught vocabulary to middle school, high school, college level (and higher) readers.
