California State University, Northridge (Master's)
I graduated from California State University, Northridge with an M.S. in Cell and Molecular Biology, where I began my teaching career as a teaching associate and eventually taught biology laboratory courses while working on my Master's degree. In addition to my college teaching experience, I have worked as a professional tutor at a supplemental educational program for the past five years, and worked as an assistant teacher in a public school in the Northeast San Fernando Valley. Upon obtaining my Master's Degree, I taught general biology courses at the College of the Canyons and worked as a Substitute Teacher for Direct Ed Solutions. My professional training includes organization, management, leadership, study skills, time management, creative teaching strategies, and goal-setting. I instruct mathematics through Pre-calculus, science through Biology and Chemistry, and English Language Arts through 8th grade. As a result of tutelage by me, myriad students have seen significant improvement in their academic skills as well as their standardized and curricular test scores. Having published my thesis project in Experimental Biology Journal, I have proven myself to be competent and knowledgeable in my subject matter. In my free time, I enjoy playing the musical keyboard and reading novels.

I can lower my hourly rate depending on the grade level (cheaper for K-5), subject being tutored, group rates and multiple hour sessions.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I believe I am qualified to tutor Elementary (K-6th), because I have had extensive experience tutoring English Language Arts. English has always been one of my strongest subjects in school and in college.
I have worked with students in grades K-6) one-on-one and in groups of 5 to help them improve their ELA skills. As an assistant teacher of a San Fernando Valley Elementary school, I worked with different groups of 5 students during the Independent Work Time. These were the students who struggled with phonics, fluency and reading comprehension. I also worked with an after school program called The Green Machine designed to help students in grades 3rd-5th struggling with vocabulary, phonics, building complete sentences and grammar.
I have used various methods and teaching tools to help students improve their English Language Arts skills. Some of these methods include using flash cards, visual aids, pictorials, puzzles, educational games and decodable books (for grades K-2).
In order to assess students’ fluency, I have used DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills).
In addition to using the above methods, I use Spectrum Books as supplemental material to reinforce the English California Standards for reading comprehension, writing, spelling, phonics and vocabulary. For students in grades 2nd -6th, I use the CST released questions in order to prepare them for the examination. I have variety of books and resources available to tutor grades k-6th.
I grew up in Iran and went to school there. I passed all of my Persian literature, grammar, reading and vocabulary courses with excellent grades. I helped my two cousins learn to read and speak Farsi. I also have experience working with children one-on-one, in a group of 5 and in a full classroom.
