Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Animation

I have seven years experience producing 2D and 3D animation and motion graphic for commercial clients.

I am qualified on PC, Mac, iOS, Windows and Android.

Film

I have worked on approximately 200 commercial productions. I employ narrative filmmaking technique in most.
I’m a professional cameraman with more than 15 years experience.

When I was younger we used to work with actual film — physical chemical emulsions on plastic. That’s given way to digital media but the use and result remain the same.
To edit film we used some form of blade to actually slice or cut it, then splice it back together with tape and adhesive. Now I use editing applications on a tablet or computer. The most common professional editing tools today are AVID, Adobe Premiere and Apple Final Cut Pro. I edit professionally on all three and teach others how to edit on two. As such I contracted with Warner Brothers, ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN and others. As an editor I’ve worked for NBC, CNN and The Discovery Channel.

I’ve produced a number of animations, music videos and f/x video / films as well.

In college — here and abroad — I studied film and media production as a secondary field or “minor".
I am qualified on PC, Mac, iOS, Windows and Android.

Macintosh

I am an Apple-Certified Digital Video Trainer.

Photography

I have been a professional cameraman for more than 15 years. Photography is central to my career in video production.
My work has appeared on television nationally and internationally.
I started out as photographer for my High School yearbook, later for a small newspaper. That led to electronic media where I first interned as cameraman for NBC affiliate KSBY.
I have long since moved on to cable, broadcast and film production companies.
I am qualified on PC, Mac, iOS, Windows and Android.
Image processing has always been appropriately equated with photography. Most of Ansel Adams work was done in “post process”: after the photograph was snapped, in a lab.
Early in my career I too worked with film cameras and “developed” the film / processed it with chemicals in a lab.
Today however I do it all digitally. I have employed Adobe Photoshop professionally now for 15 years.

Still images, moving images and all the digital tools we use to make video and film today are integrated comprehensively in post-production (aka editing). I’m a professional editor and expert on Apple’s Final Cut Pro software.

As cameraman, post-production and instructor my credits and clients include: NBC, CBS, ABC, The Learning Channel, CNN, The Discovery Channel, NHK Japan and others.

I taught camera skills for Cox Communication for 4 years. As a freelance contractor I have 5 years teaching camera operation exclusively.

Video Production

I have 15 years experience creating video for broadcast, cable and theatrical release. My work has appeared on NBC, CNN, The Learning Channel and is accredited on IMDb. I am a producer, director, editor, camera operator, writer, audio / sound mixer and director of photography (lighting).
I teach the same at all experience levels - everyone from troubled teens to Emmy Award winners.

I am qualified on PC, Mac, iOS, Windows and Android.
