About Jacqueline

Hi there! I would like to tell you a little bit about me. I am a Spanish native speaker from Venezuela, I came originally to the US to study music (and I did). I appreciate the willingness to learn and openness of people's mind to new concepts and ideas. I love to teach and that is what I have been doing for the last 15 years approximately. I enjoy every step of my students learning experience and of course, to see their progress.

I started teaching Spanish and Hispanic Culture at the college level at Harvard University, where I was also trained. I earned four awards in "Excellence in Teaching" in the same University. I have a lot of experience, I have been teaching since 2001 in different universities: Harvard University, UCSB, Westmont College and California Lutheran University. I have also taught at Elementary Level in different after school programs in the Santa Barbara area: Isla Vista School, Peabody Charter School and Mountain View School.

I studied music in different music conservatories in my country (Conservatorio de Música Juan José Landaeta and Conservatorio de Música Simón Bolívar). I also hold a Master's degree in Opera Performance from Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA. I have a lot of performing experience, and I have sung for different groups and organizations, mostly in Massachusetts and Venezuela. Besides that, I like different types of music and singing karaoke.

I enjoy teaching, love meeting new people (all backgrounds, nationalities, religions, ages, gender, etc.). In general I like to be helpful. I consider that teaching and learning could be an amazing experience and reciprocal. The person who teaches always learns something new from his/her disciples.

If you decide to take lessons with me, I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Give yourself a chance to do something good together.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

General Music

I was born in Venezuela and there I went to several institutions to study music: I studied at Conservatorio Juan José Landaeta: 3 years of Theory and Solfege, plus 1 year of Classical Guitar and choir. Then I studied at Escuela de Música Lino Gallardo, 2 more years of Theory and Solfege then 1 year of Harmony, Music History, Secondary Piano and Voice. Later at The Conservatorio Simón Bolívar, I studied Voice and Italian Diction and reviewed Solfege. Later on, I did my Master's in Opera Performance at Longy School of Music (MA, USA) where besides Voice, Diction, and Opera, I reviewed Theory and Harmony, Piano, I studied Acting, History of Opera, etc.

I love music and it has been always part of my life.

Voice (Music)

I studied voice in my home country, Venezuela, I attended several Music Conservatories, I had a private vocal coach for several years as well. I sung in a Chamber Choir for about 4 years, Gaudeamus, and went to two International Tours. Later, in order to complete my training in singing, I came to the US and did a Master's program in Opera Performance at Longy School of Music (MA). I have a lot of experience performing and I like to teach especially beginners and children. I love to be involved in the learning process and discovering the potential of the student: vocally, artistically, and musically.
