TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I've had vast experience in teaching and tutoring, including teaching history and philosophy at a graduate level, mentoring college students, and college career prep with high school students. I've been a guest speaker at high school graduations, university assemblies, Rotary, camps, and conferences. I currently teach at two universities. I'll take every opportunity I can to help someone acquire knowledge and reach their goals.

WRITING AND EDITING EXPERIENCE

I've also done a lot of publishing. I've got two books to my name and a couple dozen articles in newspapers, magazines, and journals. If you need help developing your ability to understand complex ideas and communicate effectively, I'd love to help.

I'm well versed in English literature, creative writing, editing, and publishing. I've made a small career from my own writings and can teach you how to communicate effectively and persuasively.

Tutoring can be fun! I'll help you accomplish what you want quickly and easily in an encouraging and positive way. Let me know when you want to begin!

LANGUAGE EXPERIENCE

American English is my first language, but I have also studied Korean and Spanish at a college level, and I can translate Koine Greek and Ancient Hebrew. I have some experience in conversational French and Japanese.

RESULTS

I've helped three students pass the CBEST, the most recent of which noted that score was substantially higher than when she had attempted the test without tutoring.
Another student preparing for the SAT raised his score from 1170 to 1300 in three months of tutoring with me.
One student was recently accepted into what he called "the college of my dreams" after we worked on the application together.

After 18 years as a non-profit manager, I have experience in all aspects of human resource management, including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, alignment, compensation management, and offboarding. I've spent a good deal of those years coaching a staff of 30-60 people in career development. I've published an article in a journal on how to prepare for and succeed at interviews. I also participate in a mentoring program with college students at Azusa Pacific University, helping them discern and develop their vocational aspirations.
Public Speaking,

Public Speaking

I have been a pastor for nearly two decades and have given sermons, classroom lectures, and other lectures almost every week through those years. I currently speak to a congregation of 1200 attenders each week. I have been a guest speaker at Azusa Pacific University, the World Vision headquarters, Rotary, the Honolulu Art Academy, and multiple high school graduations, camps, and conferences. For my doctorate I wrote a dissertation on the subject of homiletics (preaching).

Wonderful to work with!!!

James proved to be a super helpful English tutor! He is extremely knowledgeable and well versed in literary analysis. His assistance was a crucial element in helping me develop a good thesis statement. He did an excellent job at helping me weed out the complicated structure of an early English poem to put my thoughts into coherent statements.
