Cal Poly Pomona (Mathematics)
BYU (Graduate Coursework)
My bachelor degree was in math with a minor in psychology. I have taught k through 12 for 14 years, substitute teaching in all subject areas in Southern California and also have privately tutored students math throughout the years. Students, both my private tutees--even the male lead actor in the movie "Princess Diary"-- and also those in public schools, often commented on how much more clear and knowledgeable about the subjects I was than their regular teachers, and often asked why I did not have my own class. My response had always been "Good question!" with a smile. The truth was that I had personal projects I was working on at the time that consumed most of my time and resources. Besides, through the years, I came to discover that I was happiest and at my best in one on one and in small group settings.
I have tutored with the principles of cognitive psychology I learned in college and even before I had the course, and found great success with students of all ages. I keep myself abreast with the latest research findings on learning and in various subject areas. I will tutor or teach with all my heart and mind and strengths to help every parent with their children's tutoring needs regardless of their levels or the amount of effort it will be required from me.
Currently, my availability starting May 2, 2015 is any time outside of my work hours at a Post Office, as follows: 11am to 6:30pm Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, & Fridays, and 6:00am to 1;30pm on Saturdays, & off on Tuesdays. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
