I have been teaching Social Studies and English courses in Los Angeles for 42 years at the high school, community college, and university levels, including AP and Honors level History and English. I have tutored privately for 30 years.

In 1966 at age 12, a friend and I co-wrote a Man from Uncle novel. It was never published and is now lost to time, but I have been writing ever since. As a high school teacher, I edited and oversaw the student-produced magazine, Wings. I have tutored for all HS standardized tests. I self-published a children’s book, published a novel about teaching high school, and I have been published in an award-winning anthology about Covid 19. I have an MA in American History and teach at a major university.

I have a fondness for words, because words 'transport' us. Did you know that 'trans' means across and 'port' means carry? I'll bet you can sit here right now and think of other words that use these roots and you have just expanded your vocabulary! I excel at conversation if you are just learning English.

I am a poet, essayist, and an accomplished chess player. I grew up in New England, lived in Europe, and for relaxation travel the deserts and mountains of California. I believe that reading frees us from space and time and allows us to go anywhere and do anything. If you love to learn, read. You will never be bored and you will make friends wherever you go.
