About Margarit

Hi, I'm Margarit and here's something I don't readily admit to many people: school wasn't always my thing. I remember it being a total drag during high school as I daydreamed about becoming a ballerina. It's not that I was lazy or unmotivated (well, maybe a little of that too!), but I just hadn't found my passion. It wasn't until college when I took my first psychology course that I fell in love with the complex and mysterious web of the prefrontal cortex, and I never looked back. Now I'm an academic and--dare I say it?--a huge nerd.

During my 5 years as a research associate at UCLA, I published a number of peer-reviewed studies based on psychological research in addiction etiology and treatment. Somewhere along the way, I completed two Master's degrees, finishing at the top of my class and making great strides towards where I'm at today--a market researcher. Collectively, I've written well over 30 college and graduate level essays and published in over a dozen peer-reviewed journals. And that's not including the 10...12....20 cover letters, personal statements, and resumes I've drafted and re-drafted (and still continue to perfect).

If anyone can say that they know what it's like to be a student--it's me. I know too well how it feels when your brain literally hurts. Like you are one bad grade away from having a nervous breakdown and how come everyone else in class seems to know what's going on except for you? The second-guessing yourself, the over-thinking it, the blank page staring back at you as you rip through another bag of Cheetos to soothe your writer's block. Believe me, I've been there. And what I could have used the most out of those testing times was a helping hand---someone I could rely on to sit down with me and explain probability theory until they're blue in the face. Or, pat me on the back and say, "you're on the right track"; a lifeline, if you will. And that's why I'm here.

I believe that my profound appreciation for the struggling student life is what makes me different from other tutors. I genuinely want to help because it makes me feel amazing when you nail that assignment. And my extensive background in psychology doesn't hurt. I not only understand learning, memory, and cognition from a theoretical perspective, but I also have an intuition about people and their needs. I believe that we are all unique and capable of greatness. I believe in a growth mindset; that achievement is not a product of an inborn talent or hardwired skill, but rather a result of effort and perseverance. And an awesome tutor, of course!

As your tutor, I will be patient, accommodating, and understanding of your unique needs and I will exceed your expectations with honesty and integrity. My schedule is flexible and I am available upon immediate notice.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I look forward to helping you achieve greatness. And even if we don't get a chance to work together, I believe in you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Grammar

Grammar is a crucial component of good writing. I am proficient in the composition of clauses, phrases, and words that make up the rules of English grammar.
